A few years ago we looked at a horse for sale. It was in our county about 10-15 miles from home. The house was a mansion. The farm had an indoor riding arena where we rode the horse (beautiful horse but had a fetlock problem). Area was football field size. Amazing barn, nothing as large as that one but I asked to use restroom. Long walk, restroom was much nicer than most homes...marble, gold plated faucets, huge showers, etc. I asked the young lady there about owners. She said she works there, hardly ever sees owners, it's a tax write off and she lives in mansion alone.

You could never pay for that place farming it. Fancy and impressive, nice to see but sure as heck not a practical build.

I think that's the case with most farms and ranches. My deerlease rancher has 5000 acres. If it sold for the market price, the buyer could never recoup the costs ranching cattle and goats.

I think $6 / bale was in 2017, could be double that now.

All dependent on location. For 2 years now my winter sales are $4.50 for 1st cutting and $6.00 for 2nd cutting. This year our first 2 inquiries have passed because of the price. This will be my first year in almost a decade of having significant inventory so should be interesting. If I shipped it south the guy that buys last I heard pays $4.50/bale. I'm located on the NY/PA line 45 min east of Erie, PA.

WOW! Around here that would be immediately turned into an event venue. I've been to several weddings lately that were in "barns". I can't believe they are just storing hay and equipment in something that nice.

Here, just the barn venue is $5000 per day. No restrooms, nothing else included.
We’ve been invited to a bonfire wedding shower, no gifts per se, bring a bottle of x off the list for the wedding day bar.

Where in Va.? I'm here...we get hay from 8 miles away, they have customers from a few states away.

It's a beautiful place but doesn't seem logical or practical to me, not like any working farm I've ever seen.
