I was thinking the UAW strikes were over being unaware of Fains social hook opening the door to machine built autos era.

They did. I wonder how that will play out. In reality, the hourly raise they got over 4 years means nothing because inflation will more than eat that up.

Ford and GM both suffered slight hiccups with UAW member votes on tentative contracts, but the automakers and the union are still cautiously optimistic the ratifications will happen.

So some places voted to accept and some places voted to reject.

It's like the UAW is fractured and it's location dependent.

With the plants scattered around the country, they will undoubtedly have different concerns and grievances in each place. After the minor issues are addressed, I think it will all work out in the end.

With Warren Buffett pulling 900 million out of GM this year probably indicates some darker days not just because he pulled his money out because the reason that he did pull it out.

What do you think about BP plays to invest a billion dollars in the EV charging structure.

The first 10% of that has already been committed to buying $100 million worth of Tesla superchargers for their gas stations.

Borrowing money to drill oil wells and build refineries as well as gas stations is getting more difficult by the hour. Decision makers with money knows that ICE is going to fade and investments in such will be giving diminishing returns for the next 100 years.

If a farm boy grew up milking cows by hand and working in tobacco patch was able to realize in 2019 that EVs here to stay I don't understand your hangup on not being able to see into the future?

I don’t doubt they might be in the future, but EV’s were attempted from 1900-1950’s on a smaller scale and nobody liked them. You know that, right?
Virtually NONE of the product is made in USA. That’s BAD for the country.

You want to make logical, practical EV’s HERE with majority American made parts? I’m good with that.
If it’s going to be 80% made in China, No way.

I’m not going to support destroying the American auto industry AND our energy industry to help make the Chinese the world’s new superpower.

The other thing about EVs that I learned in the past year is that Tesla has basically been profitable primarily because of carbon credits that the government issues. The current regs have been forcing other automakers to purchase carbon credits from Tesla that they get for free from the government. The other automaker have effectively been forced into pumping hundreds of millions into Tesla. That’s part of the big push for them to establish their own EV business.

My buddy at work had a 2023 Bronco on order before the strike, actually he ordered it in February. It was scheduled to be made next week. He got a email just this morning saying his 2023 order has been cancelled and if he wanted to reorder he could, for $4,800 more. For the exact same model.

He's all pissed. He is in the emotional throws of shock, so who knows what he will do.

I don't know what to say, was the push worth the squeeze?

Isn’t that order a contract?

I’d be demanding they honor the contract - and possibly go public with what they did if they refuse.

Though I’m guessing there are probably some weasel words in the contract that give the dealer an out.

Contracts favor the maker...

Similar happened to many tractor orders.

Probably a clause regarding pandemic, civil unrest, natural disasters and strikes...

Seen worse happen in employment.

Army Vet Surgical Tech applied for a job with the VA... completed all background and interview process which took months and offered the position which he accepted and gave current employer notice...

He shows up for first day of work with his new VA ID badge and locker assignment and learns 12 hours prior all hiring frozen coinciding with the first week of pandemic... he can't believe having taken a new apartment in a new state, etc... no job and no answers.

The VA loss turned out to be our gain but he went through weeks of anguish and even tried to relocate across the country to get his old job back...
