Hitch ball / coupler near disaster

I find it pretty easy to just make up a hitch / ball combo for each of my trailers, and carry that under the back set of my truck. Once you get past three trailers, you usually find that one you already have made up for one trailer will fit another, so usually we're not looking at more than maybe three or four different combinations. Right now, I actually only have two hitches and three trailers, one being a 6" or 7" drop with a 2" ball and the other being a 4" or 5" drop with a 1-7/8" ball. Both are greased, wearing a condom, and stowed under the back seat where my shin will never accidentally find them in the dark.
!
For me, slightly different. All of our bumper pull trailers use either a 2 5/16 ball or pintle hitch, even the little 6x10 for the zero turn.

Even easier, then. I've had a half dozen trailers with 1-7/8", probably nearly the same 2", and even a few 2-5/16". Why different trailers of the same weight class can't just all standardize on the same size ball, I will never understand. It surely would help prevent a few accidents every year, where people use the wrong size ball, out of ignorance, expediency, or just sheer laziness.

Ya, I replaced the 1 & 7/8 ball hitches years ago with 2" to try standardize trailer towing here. Now our last camper has 2 & 5/16! Oh well.

Same here, finally got it down to 2 & 5/16 on everything, of course downgrading to only one trailer made it easy to do.

I hope to be down to just one or two trailers, someday. Of course, they won't be much use for hauling tractors, each having a nice boat on it.
