Civilian Sales​

In February 2019, GovPlanet announced that it will be selling the ITV Growlers to the public for the first time. Growlers will be sold by public auction in March 2019.

Well that's cool, I'd never even heard of them.

They were M-151's, I think. They had swing axles, like the original Convairs, and were infamous for flipping while cornering, crushing the GI's on board. They were withdrawn from service and scrapped. The demob included cutting the spring hangers off the body so they could never run again.

Then came the Osprey. USMC bet their farm on them. Years late, way over budget, and with marginal load capacity, they finally arrived, with no armament {weight!}.

USMC demanded a light artillery piece with tow. Somehow, the 151 got the call for the tow, and we taxpayers paid some insane amount {?100K$} per vehicle to rehab them into Growlers. I'd hope they are more stable than their ancestors.

So promises made by a Beltway Bandit fell through. That's NEVER happened before....

At $1 million each, they should be new.

An Osprey engineer lived across the street from me In the neighborhood where I was born. He worked for Boeing. He went down with the rest of the crew into the Potomac River while doing a demo for the Pentagon. All crew members were lost.

At first, I pictured a device that used to be used to test armatures. Wrong growler.

Someone on another tractor forum just bought one, it looked pretty rough, I think his was a Marine version.
