Fellers. Need ya'lls advice agin. Lookin to buy a block or oil heater for my newly-acquired (March 2022) 1974 MF135 diesel. I have a '68 IH Farmall 140 and a '48 Ford 8N, both gassers, and I never used a heater.

What are ya'lls suggestions? Thanks.

I suggest a freeze plug type block heater. I have had them on my last 2 tractors, and they do a fine job.

Ok. Thank you for the reply. I'll check this type heater out on ebay or Steiners. Many thanks, friend.

Freeze plug heater is what I have on my NH TC33D. It was either a dealer or factory option - the dealers in my area tend to put them on every tractor they sell.

Thank you, also, sir. Based on your and RjCorazza's advice I've ordered a freeze plug heater for my old '74 MF135 diesel. Preciate you fellers weighin' in with ya'lls experience and knowledge. Wish me luck. Been a long time since I fooled with freeze plugs (say, 1974 on my old '65 Mustand 289!)

I just replaced mine a few days ago. After 22 years of use, it finally crapped out. It would trip the ground fault circuit in my garage every time I plugged it in.

Do be careful when getting the old plug out that you don't break it and leave chunks of it inside the engine. Sometimes they are tough to remove after years of sitting there.

Wow. 22 years is a good run on about any part. The fella at the upstate NY tractor supply company gave me some good detailed instructions on getting the old freeze plug out and I appreciate you mentioning that also. Like I said, been a long time since I fooled with freeze plugs. Thought it was back in the day (1974) on my '65 'Tang, but just remembered that we replaced some freeze plugs on a 2001 Ford Explorer 302 back around 2015. Had it up on a rack, so wasn't too difficult. Again, sir, thank you very much. Preciate fellas like you who are willing to help others. Whole lot more real good people in the world than otherwise, I always say.
