I tried to go to the one in Daytona Beach, FL and it took 20 minutes just to get into the parking lot!! We turned around and left, went to the one outside Florence, SC. on our return trip North. Best gas station I've ever been to, and the pulled pork sammich was amazing!
Dang!! I wish I had known you were going to go to the one in Florence! Thats the one that is close to me, we could have met up face to face! Next time let me know!!!
Heck we went to that one on opening weekend, you would have thought they were opening a new Disnyworld!!!

I split a little wood today. One was a huge round, I should have planned ahead a little and I wouldn’t have had to work so hard to get it up to the splitter.

The last two Sunday nights in a row we got 5" and 6" of very heavy wet snow. A lot of trees got broken and bent over. And now the weather service has warned that it is likely to happen again this Sunday night - eerie. Most of the bent trees have more or less straighten back up but I have several along our longish road, like this one, that have not. I cut them today before they got a chance to cause any more trouble.

They're not big trees, this one is 8" in diameter, but they offer a chance to practice dealing with hard leaners.

The tops get put back in the woods to rot.

And the other 45' is burnable so it gets put on the wood pile.

Gotta love grey birch. It keeps you busy just as you thought you had everything cleaned up!
It isn't the hottest wood by any means but is nice to have on those spring and fall mornings when you want a fire but don't feel like opening all of the windows afterwards. :D

We got the same storm but didn’t get so many downed trees except for an 18 inch diameter hemlock that took out our power for a day. I have had my eye on it for months knowing that it would eventually be taken down by a wet snow storm. I have already salvaged the top 15 feet and the butt 20 feet is still attached to the root ball and awaits me.

my brother had some trees taken down at his house and he doesn't burn so I helped him clean it up and ended up with three truck loads. Sassafras, and tulip, nice for early and late burn seasons.
And it is nice size, easy to handle on and off the splitter.
