Hi, first post to this site. I have since new a Kubota zd28 with 72” commercial deck with 1500 hours in 15 years. The steering was faulty and the machine had gone back to the dealer for adjustments several times before 100 hours. The transmissions I think were rebuilt by the dealer because of faulty machined parts by the factory. I added the extra hydraulic reservoir from the factory and I have done all maintenance myself since. I put freshly sharpened blades on every 6 to 8 hours believing that this puts less wear and tear on the machine and grease the spindles at the same time. Still on the original set of spindles. I use the Super UDT because dealer advised it was needed for this machine. I’ve had to replace o rings several times because of hydraulic leaks. What is the best composition o ring to use when replacing leaking components?

You do know o-rings come in different materials for a reason right? Indeed only certain o-ring materials will only work in hydraulic fluids. And even then, certain specific fluids will not make even those swell.

Kubota UTC and CAT TO-2 and Deere Hygard and Yanmar TF500A are all the same specification of J20C. In some regions if one of these are not available, we tend to find one in the group to purchase and use. This happens a good deal in the EU and eastern EU countries along with Canada. In the USA, not too often are you hard pressed using one of the others in the intern.

ONLY use fluids stating 'meets' Kubota UTC and never 'compatible' nor 'recommends'.
All that is marketing hype.

bmaverick, thanks for the Kubota factory service manuals for my zd28. I’ve used the super udt since new. I’ve dealt with 2 dealers in my area with one saying super udt was required and the other saying regular udt was sufficient. I use the super udt because it’s cheaper than buying replacement parts. I always use Kubota parts to replace worn out parts including o rings. I just replace 2 hydraulic hard lines. One had a cracked mounting tab that allowed the steel line to back out of the pump and leak fluid. The second line was replaced because it rubbed the first line and got damaged. After filling with hydraulic fluid I tested the mower and I still have a leak. I cleaned the machine and set it up on the lift. Tomorrow I will locate the leak and repair if the o ring assortment I have has the correct type o ring. If not I will have to get the o ring from the dealer next week. That is why I asked what o ring material is needed for the Kubota super udt?

For hydraulic oils and fluids, only two material grades work as industry standards without going to exotic materials.

Oil-Resistant Buna-N O-Ring

Buna-N resists hydraulic oils, motor oil, petroleum fluids, and synthetic lubricants, which are suitable for a wide range of static and dynamic sealing applications.

Water-Resistant Neoprene O-Ring

Resistant to water, neoprene also resists diluted salt solutions, ethylene glycol, and hydraulic oils, which are suitable for a wide range of static and dynamic sealing applications.

And for the best types in those materials ones starting with a part numbe of AS are Aerospace performance, meaning they should not leak. If a leak does occur, the fittings and pipes are typically damaged instead. Parker is the global leader in making them.
