So the seals on the front loader got replaced. One was leaking and when I removed it yeah the piston was very loose.
Could extend and retract piston with next to zero effort other then the weight of it.
So got both done.
Now they are installed and ready for service?
Is there a process for bleeding out the air? Watching an Australian shop speaking of how air will ruin the internal seals.
So got me to thinking before I jump in and begin more dirt work.

Thanks all, Happy New year to all as well...

Just cycle them full stroke a few times and that will move the air out of the cylinders.

Thank you.
Logic told me same but one thing for sure, I'm pretty ignorant of a lotta things.
So ain't to proud to ask and be sure.
Have a happy new year!

Hey there, what's your name on FTE?
Chinookman...Not very active as I have moved on from tweaking trucks to just maintenance. Every once in a while I post asking questions like which type of shocks to use, stuff like that.
Kinda like here, was on a steep learning curve but then got busy cleaning up pasture, have house built and now high maintenance on all equipment.
Now I don't, have the time to just hang out and have a good time with the folks.

I understand, though these days I find myself with too much time on my hands; still, I just don't spend the time at FTE that I did for the first year I owned my F350.

I use the same username there, but I wasn't exactly a heavy poster.

Good taste in trucks and tractors. 🍻

Never heard of air ruining cylinder seals. But yea, just cycle a few times. Even a pause at the end of stroke for a few seconds. Hopefully you werent having a issue with the cylinders leaking down, cause you may still have that issue

Well the loader was slow to lift, quick to drop.
I never knew bout damage from air but here it is.

Part one was was pretty interesting.
One day I'll find time for part two.

On edit: I do have a slow leak down. The bucket will sag?, tilt down slowly.
Every so often I'll have to curl bucket back up.
Don't know if it's the valve just past the joystick or one of the bucket seals allowing fluid to seep back.
I don't have all the tools or set up to break the locking nut an hold the long cylinder down for a DIY.
Don't know what seal kit cost, need to do homework.
Not sure if I was over charged at 175 a cylinder.
But loader now ready for use.

Do a search for “Dieseling” in hydraulic cylinders. There are different articles coving this problem.

One known cause is load on cylinder causing the cylinder to move faster than the cylinder can be filled with oil. This creates air bubbles which when suddenly pressurized explode “like atomized diesel fuel under compression.”

Aha...so this may be what the young man was referring to when he mentioned it in his video, that air had destroyed the seals.
It seems to me now knowing this, he speak as if to a well versed audience in the hydraulic world.
Which was not me!

Appreciate the schooling, interesting.
