Searching for a truck I may never find?

That has not been my experience, but I respect your observations.

Remember, I’m talking about a truck with an automatic transmission. There’s nobody more talented at building rugged automatics than Allison. Duramax engines aren’t perfect, but in the vintage of truck I am looking at, they were very good.

Found this. Considering it, but seller won’t send me anymore pictures and it’s like 300 miles away.

That's a nice looking baby dump from the pic anyway only problems I've heard of with Allison's is when the Duramax is modded or tuned, etc. only problem I've had with my Allison was a speed sensor failure located on the transfer case at around 100k (put it in limp mode). Ill say my 3/4 ton Sierra Duramax is the best truck I've ever owned and I'm going to drive it into the ground.

Is this what you're looking for Haydude?
Pretty close, but looking for a SRW (single rear wheel) pickup.
I already have a cab & chassis flat bed.

Nice truck though!

Oops, missed that it was dually. Bad pictures. There are a couple on autotrader that are 2 door extended cab srw but very expensive.

Just for sheets and giggles did a quick cl search in my area nothing that's not a extended cab and or rust free duramax's under $25k. I may find a 7.3 manual trans power stroke baby dump by the time you find your unicorn.

Non-rusted pre-emissions GM 3500 regular cab duramax diesel/allison transmission SRW.

Want one for a snow plow truck.
Prefer the GM D/A drivetrain the best in that era of trucks.
Want reg cab for plowing and maneuverability.
Want one-ton for load capacity, but a 3/4 could work.
Want pre-emissions for obvious reasons.

Have looked on FBM and truck trader for a few weeks.
Found exactly ONE truck and it was a 3/4 ton (2500) and the guy wants a briefcase of cash for it.

If I lived in the southwest, would probably be driving it by now, but in the northeast, these trucks are hard to keep from rusting.

Anyone see one for sale?

New Hampshire seller so probably rusty but worth asking maybe.

When we were looking for a truck, I wasn't to much of a brand guy and wanted a gasser 3/4ton. Holy crap those things are expensive.

Granted, a low Mile non rusted trucks are cherished here in MI.

I hope I don't end up there in a gasser with the lighter built transmission

If you buy a Chevy 8.1 they came with an Allison transmission. It’s probably worth a road trip to buy a rust free truck. You’ll have to pay 20k but it’s not hard to find rust free Duramax trucks here in TN. And we still get some salt. Going farther south would be ideal.

I didn’t wake up that day planning on buying a 7.3 but when somebody wanted to trade me this I had to take them up on it.

I am surprised by the amount of rust in trucks.
I thought they had that all figured out. Now it seems worse.
Hmmm...

Surely everyone with a 4x4 pickup wants to take it out in every snow flurry, then drive like a maniac down the road.

The body on frame design and dual layer fender may be really bad for salt. Lots of hiding places for salt. Newer pickups have plastic inner fenders, but that would effectively trap salt away from washing.

Coatings may be getting better. Although when was the pealing paint problem resolved? Most of the underbody is still bare steel. Light paint or even powder is only good until the steel under is exposed.

My minivan came 10 years old from Indianapolis. Perhaps I should have thought about that some, but it turns out that it was pristine underneath. Apparently parked for snow days.
