Getting an annual physical at the doctors

I never heard of the Medicare Well was Exam either.

Looked it up - quite the diversity of opinion on its benefits.

Never saw anything saying it is required.

I hate those word games. Never have done well on those.

At the Dr's. office I love messing with the lady giving me a wellness check.
"Draw a clock showing 8:05
Me: "AM or PM?"
"Doesn't matter" she says.
So I hand her this...
"No, analog" she says. So I remove a compass from my pocket. "Not my first rodeo" I say.
"1:52 is what I want. And remember these three words: home, car, red".
She says "wow, Roman numerals and everything. Now what were the three words?".
"I can't remember. I just need to get in my red car and go home."

Really mess with them...

Ask them if they want 0805 or 1905 then 0152 or 1352.

Many folks lost care during the pandemic and a lot of providers closed up and retired.

Mom would have all those questions at her annual physical but last one was 1998 as her doctor retired and had a hard time scheduling and when I finally got a date it was March 2000 just as everything shut down.

When in doubt when being asked dumb questions by the doctors, just inform them you have a rare occuring system of coprolalia and you have no clue when or how it rears it's ugly head...

Yes, I would agree with your assesment on how wakes are generally laid out either at a funeral home or chuch.

I had a long in depth discussion on this with a funeral home director when I was in charge of my aunts funeral.

Like I said, everyone mourns differently, and there is no right way that fits all. Funeral home director pointed out to me that by viewing a dead body, it helps for closure for the loved one of the deceased. I get that. It's just that our body is nothing more than a shell of our former selves and that person really isn't there, even if their body is. Personally I don't need to see a body to realize and understand that the person is no longer on this earth.

To me it is actually rather disturbing with all the makeup and the attempt to make the body look much younger and "healthier" then you last saw them. Life celebration, party is a much better idea, but to each their own.

To address the original question. When I do bi-annually schedule an exam, I get so much up selling and "don't worry, the insurance will pay for it," that I have little or no faith anymore in the integrity of what the doctor or nurse is saying.

I completely agree with you.

The written rule with my father was to have an open bar, tab on him, and everyone have a great time.

Always used to have family reunions at my parents house growing up. Hadn't had one in a good 30 years. Talking to my cousin who came over from the Pittsburgh area for my fathers "celebration of life" event last year, we talked, and set up the first family reunion over at his place later in the year. My dad would have been proud that we worked out a family reunion at his "last event" when we laid him to rest at the cemetery with mom.

Funny, everyone getting older. I can remember when my cousins were young partying with my parents the night before the reunion. Things could get out of hand. Last year? Everyone's in their 70's now and it was a pretty quiet evening LOL Off topic, apologies.

I'm glad to see somebody else feels that way. When I'm gone I want to be disposed of in the cheapest way possible. I'll be done with my body, it won't matter what happens to it.

Reminds me of a girl I dated for a while. She was a cosmetologist for a funeral home. Did hair for the deceased. Before that, it never occurred to me that it was a job!

at what point should a elderly person stop driving?

My late beloved MIL drove till she was 95, passed away at 97, almost 98.
She turned away from the stove quickly, lost her balance and fell. Cracked her hip. Admitted to hospital, then a nursing home which she hated, then a few weeks later a hospice where she passed away.
I was surprised how fast she went down hill after she stopped driving.
At 95 she would do lawn work, at 97 she could barely climb stairs.
