Smoking is one of the few dumb things I never did. Actually I tried them one summer at a Demolay conclave, but quit a few days later. I was sitting on a log with a cigarette between my fingers and said " this looks shitty!" (Funny what you remember, 50 years later:))
I left the rest of the pack under the log I was sitting on. Every time I drive by that patch of woods I think of it, and wonder if that pack is still there.
Someday maybe I'll go back and finish it!! :😀

My paternal grandpa swore he would quit if they ever got up to 35 cents a pack. He never quit.

My maternal grandpa smoked into his late 70's.

Neither one of them died from lung cancer.

I've got an adult sibling who is a life-long smoker that has COPD, emphysema, congestive heart failure, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, and a bunch of other stuff, but not lung cancer. :(

My wife quit; she says after our dog looked at her like she was crazy to smoke. Whatever works. She had tried like 15 to 20 times to quit, every time starting back up with 1 or 2 less per day. By the time the dog convinced her to stop she was down to 2 or 3 a day. Lord knows when I suggested that she quit, she would smoke more, so I am glad the dog took the initiative. 🐕🐕

It took me a few years and several tries before I finally quit, I was a three pack a day smoker for the last several years of smoking. Been quit now for more then 15 years now and could still enjoy one.

It amazes me how many people still smoke I know how hard it is to quit but why do people continue to smoke when you see so many people encumbered with lung disease today?
Might be because they still believed thier Doctor, that said smoking was enjoyable and not bad for your health!
I remember the ads back then, Doctors were promoting smoking as a lifestyle.
Money talks, and some people never get smarter.
Used to smoke 2 to 3 packs a day, non filtered (Lucky Strikes). I quit cold turkey, but had cravings for over two years when I was around the smell of tabaco smoke.
