32 going to 38...freezing rain and then just rain, they say.

Scootr...P365(y).

Ron, awesome photo of the dove ice skating.

Saw a pair of big military planes flying low over our house yesterday. They made 7 laps, always doing their turns back north right over us. I got a good look during a couple of turns, but didn't have my phone, and then was in the woods working on firewood, and never a clear shot for a pic. They were loud, appeared to be faster than I expected, and I could feel them. Seems like they could make sharp turns, too. I'll try to post a couple of pix, and maybe someone can tell what they are.

Buppies, some day show me your long rifles.
I'm not much interested in hand guns for reasons you know
I'd love to set up some tin cans and see if my aim is still any good

Best out of ten wins, loser buys lunch
and since I like the smell of Hoppes, I'll even help clean up when done.

hmmm, bet we could have fun with that in Texas. Those guys will sure
know how to shoot...

I have no problems with rifles. Just don't aim them at people.
I really admire the workmanship, machining and nice wood stocks.
Target practice is fun
just ask anyone who throws darts...

this mess today will be a good test of my rv cover. So far it has been working fine
time to shower and dress warmly for the day.
It will be an undershirt day.
but I don't mind, mine are very soft, old and washed a lot

Good Morning Guys,
Ct, 22 to start going to 34 ! Snow coming in early evening according to what I hear from the weather man !

Scott, I am thrifty/cheap also. But sometimes you have to give in and spend the money to make life easier as you age.
Ron, about 8 years from now when I’m 80 and laying on my back in the snow trying to hook up the generator plug to the house socket, I will think of your advice then ! 😉😂

Exchanges messages with family in Germany They would like us to visit
Fritz, I could volunteer to go for you and the wife ! Would love to try and convince your relatives that I am a long lost relative speaking broken German ! Would walk through their front door , saying Ich liebe dich, es ist gute weider zu sehen !!😂

Ok so I didn’t test the generator or snow blower as stated yesterday because I put Christmas decorations away ! So must do that today !

Hope all have a blessed and safe day ! 🙏

Good Morning!!!! 42F @ 4:30AM. Periods of rain. High 48F. Winds SE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%.
If the forecasters are to be believed, the rain will be showery, last only a few hours, and only amount to an eighth of an inch or so. Probably not even enough to put out last night's camp fire, which needs doing because the fire ring ashes need to get dumped on an ash pile down the hill.

You might be able to purchase a used stereo receiver inexpensively on Craig's List or Ebay, Drew, then use both the A and B channels to drive two sets of speakers in the same room. Lots of folks have updated their rigs to include video switching via HDMI ports, leaving their old audio only gear gathering dust in a corner. And with Christmas bills coming due, they might be more willing to make you a better deal.

Good luck on your EDC search, Scotty. Back a few years when I was in the market, the offerings were severely limited by California DOJ's approved list, and most of what is on your list was only available by purchasing second hand from a LEO, often at double the MSRP. GOA/GOC are trying to get the list banished through the courts, but I don't think they've been successful yet. You'll also have problems adding a new pistol to your CCW permit, as new DOJ regulations put into place on New Years have disqualified all the trainers in the state, and last time I checked no classes are available yet.

Could be a pair of C130s, Billy.

Your talk of generators, Scott, reminds me that the new house needs a transfer switch so I can hook up a generator. Only trouble is it also has solar power, and as far as I can tell, there's no provision for hooking up a generator to the system. And from what I've seen of Sunrun's so called customer service, asking how to do it will be like talking to a brick wall...

Spent yesterday morning going through almost three weeks of accumulated snail mail, and it never did warm up enough to work on the Vanagon. I did manage to scrounge up enough wood for a camp fire, and got another pile of old documents destroyed and a lot of electronics boxes burned. They've been accumulating in case the devices they once held broke and had to be returned to their manufacturer, but the working life of most of the stuff far exceeded the warranties, leaving the boxes to pile up on a closet shelf. Not gonna waste time and space moving that kind of trash.

That pile of mail included a renewal notice for homeowner's insurance on the Yankee Hill property, and it was a good-news-bad-news deal. Good that State Farm is willing to renew the policy, especially since they've announced they won't issue any new policies in California. Bad news that they've almost doubled the premium.

Had a go at disassembling and cleaning a hydraulic toe jack yesterday, and the only thing I accomplished was to "fix" it so instead of leaking, it doesn't work at all. So ordered a new one on Amazon from Jet, who offers replacement parts and a warranty, two things the old jack didn't come with. Looking closely at the photos of the jack, it appears to be an exact copy of the one that broke, offered by Jet instead of who I got it from. And at almost double the price. Seems to be a lot of that going around these days.

Looks like today will be a mostly inside day doing paperwork and maybe a little laundry. And perhaps some packing for another trip south.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...

my old friend I picked up at Philly airport flew in on Alaska airlines from Portland
then I read this
whoa

shades of Aloha airlines. Will be interesting to hear cause of structural failure.
not good public relations for airline industry to have airplanes simply fall apart in flight.
External stressor? Doomed build error? UFO attack?

32 outside this AM. No precipitation as of yet.

Been a crappy two months.

Picking up the pieces from my in-laws lifestyle, and of course my Dad's estate. Lawyers involved already, on the latter.

Hope all are having a good start to the New Year, and are doing OK health, family and friend wise.

Good Morning.
It’s 24° with a high of 35 forecast with near certain precipitation after noontime. What’s not so certain is what form the precipitation will take. The ground is cold, so an accumulating snow is possible, but there’s too many variables to tell what will happen until after the fact.
But I’m sure that the ingredients for French Toast are flying off the shelves.

Yesterday actually did follow the plan, got some speaker work done, succeeded in getting to Columbus and back, had a nice lunch at City Barbecue with a friend while we were there, got home in time to do some more speaker work, collect and get the trash and recycling to the street, make a pork belly sandwich for dinner and play some music with the boys.

Today will start with breakfast with youngest son, and then some speaker progress. Perhaps a Costco run if the weather holds off until wife gets home from the farmers market , and there’s always the driveway markers if I need something more to do.

Drew,
a digital cable like a usb either works or it doesn’t, that is the nature of digital communication. Other than a durable jacket or heavy duty terminations for a harsh environment or frequent disconnects, it would be wasting gas money for the motorhome to buy an expensive cable.

M7040, many years ago I served my apprenticeship at Cross Co. The owners came from Stuttgart. Company I went to after finishing my apprenticeship sold some machines to the German plant. Got to go to Stuttgart a couple of time to do some training and upgrades. Never learned much German language. Everyone there spoke English.

Good morning! Low of 18°, only going up to 32°, partly sunny with a chance of light snow. Tomorrow afternoon, the 'big' storm moves in. Possibly 6-12" is the current guess.....

Woke up to a chilly house at 55°..... I forgot to clean the burn pot in the pellet stove yesterday.
Dennis, I saw a big chunk in the pot too.... then got sidetracked by something.... Yep, bottom of pot almost sealed off with solid ash. Purring along nicely now....

I'm surprised and disappointed with the pellets we got this year. I bought "premium" hardwood pellets (oak). They definitely burn a little bit hotter, more consistent burn. BUT --- seems like a lot more ash, more than previous brands. I guess you DON'T get what you pay for.....

Daughter will be on her way shortly, will take her about 8 hours to get here. Funny how one can look at a map and think - "that's not too far" - until you have to drive.... then it's reality.... how long? -- what? -- no way!...

Today's agenda: take down the Christmas lights / deco. Shouldn't take long, but the cold might extend the process. Take down a strand.... come in to warm up. Rinse and repeat.....

Everyone have a great day!

Popgadget, the USB cable was for the office stereo, from the pc to the integrated amplifier/DAC.

trash cans put away, bird feeders all filled, put up a new one I got for Christmas, will be curious if birds like
this variety any better. Still no big colorful birds.

my "water feature" is solid frozen but still cracked nicely as I walked on it. Carefully...

this garage is pretty decrepit

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

43.3eF going to almost 60, rain is now tapering off.

got to sleep late, after letting Harry out at 4Am…

Made it through the first week of work, FWIW. YEssie yessir three bags full. . . just pay me!

after work, harvested another almost 5 gallons of walnut sap in the dark. Gotta love Coleman lanterns! It would have been probably almost 7 gallons, but it was “pre-concentrated” since there were blocks of ice in the pails, so the juice Brix’d at 1-1/2% instead of just under 1% like fresh un-iced sap would. Original batch is cooking down, almost to 31%, need to get it about 65%.

here are the two batches last night, side by side, when batch #1 was at about 14%:

IMG_7143.jpeg

Small pot has now been moved to kitchen stove top for furious final boiling, should be there in about another 20 minutes.

today has a little shopping later, maybe lunch out, then try to burn off some Harry energy in the driveway once the sun comes out and things dry a bit.

i hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed Epiphany Day!!! You can start taking down Christmas decorations tomorrow 😁👍

I think C130 is correct. We see them flying in and out of a local base here.
It is a freezing 32º here this AM. Glad we changed plans. Gun store outing instead. Will let you know what I find.
I picked rocks out of the newly reclaimed field yesterday... possibly another go around this afternoon. All rock is going into my creek crossing project. Hopefully I can make a rock bed that holds up to the tractor with mower crossing in the spring.
Later the old man and I will put a new distributor in an early ford tractor of some type and get it started for a friend of his.
Have a great Saturday
