19 outside right now, heading to lower 40's.

Need to get the wood stove going again.

Yesterday did not work out as planned. Horses in front decided they wanted to be with horses in back. Ended up switching hot wire and boxes around. Very cold doing that.

Plumber really did not do much, cannot progress without tile set.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe, stay warm.

for many of us this will be the year of the cicada, unusual because two different cycled cicadas are both
coming out at same time

The two broods that will emerge simultaneously this year are Brood XIX (the 13-year cicadas) and Brood XIII (the 17-year cicadas).

Brood XIX, according to Cicada Mania, is expected to emerge in the spring of 2024 in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The last time Brood XIX came above ground was in 2011.

Brood XIII is expected to emerge in the spring of 2024 in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and possibly Michigan. Cicada Mania says the last time this brood emerged was in 2007, though the AP reports they emerged in 2021.

apparently they don't hurt anything but dogs can get sick eating too many of them
birds must think a Las Vegas smorgasbord has arrived

Good morning all
27° now, highs mid-upper 30’s again, cloudy today chance of snow showers this evening. Winds from the west 5-10 mph.

Not to bad out yesterday in the sun, managed to get branches cut up and added to burn pile. Didn’t get to FD maybe today.

Need to pickup a prescription for the Mrs today, on the way stop by town hall and vote, then stop and treat myself to coffee and donut at local coffee shop. The rest of the day is up to my ambition level which isn’t very high of late!

Enjoy your day everyone
Stay safe and healthy

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

A relatively balmy 33.8F, going to mid-40s, chance of spotty precipitation. Allegedly we are having precip for the next six days. . .

Yesterday when we went into work, one of the line supervisors said to me “I tried to do some of the practice jobs from training, and by the third one I was DONE! So many things are not right.”

To which I replied “Welcome to OUR last three weeks! I know I have been a Pain in the Posterior with all my complaints and error reports —- no you know WHY I have been a pain in the Posterior!!!”

mind you, th is after a good number of Errors and glitches have been addressed. . .

yay.

Finished cooking down the most recent batch of sap (the “Big Batch”). Got almost 25 ounces of syrup and by far the best-tasting, even though it was lighter than the last batch which was pretty tasty. And it was also the clearest batch, too.

anywho, time to start getting ready for another day at the salt mines. . . HELLO COFFEE!!!!

I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!

bad news is I can't get photos off my phone any more.
For years, manipulating or copying photos, including batch copy, was very easy using Windows explorer. Then I ran into Apple or Google's photo storage. Those systems have barriers to make it slow and difficult to get your pictures out. I think they hope you get so frustrated you just give up. Of course your next step then is to pay them more fees for added storage as the bloat of photos expands.

I disabled letting my phone auto-update photos to the cloud. That just gave me two headaches to deal with instead of one.
