Actually, five or six years ago, I was cleaning up deadwood in my woods, and there was a windrow of one after another, after another of trees that had blown down all laced together because they were blown down in a row, and without being on dry ground, and having my tractor available to me with forks, it would’ve been a major pain in the ass.

But then I would’ve been 60 years old and all by myself so at least haydude is younger and probably has plenty of help

No one has suggested just waiting it out.

Before long, global warming will dry up the river. Then back up to the pile with your pickup and a chain saw to make firewood.

Might have to season it a bit longer though.

It’s not just global warming, that area of the world there could be fracking that could crack the Earth surface and drain the river into the core of the earth, and never to run water again!

🤣

I think I will be able to walk out, or climb down a ladder from RR bridge and begin cutting.

Honestly, my biggest concerns are
1. dropping saw in water
2. chains dulling quickly because of silt in logs.
I was wondering if having a safety harness tied off to the RR bridge would be worth considering or if it could make it worse if the log jam shifted unexpectedly?

Read somewhere firefighters have special chains that don't dull as quickly?

Instead of throwing the rope back and forth, also wondering if you'd want to tether it some way to make it easier to get back to the log jam for the next pull?

Probably have one guy in excavator, one guy up on RR bridge with a tether down to the guy in the water/on log jam

Have you considered a good sized capstan winch,
easy to work with, much faster to undo and toss a rope back out controllable pull.
If a person could find a good used unit and rig up pto or hydraulic power for it.

Yeah cap Stan is always a good simple winch to use

I have been thinking about this a bit, there is a show on discovery called ax men, where they run a cable system, similar to a running dog lease or clothes line, where they choke multiple tree's and pull them out overhead.

I don't see why you can't run 2 excavators or dozer on both sides of the river, run a cable with snatch block between them, then get a set of choker cables ( i actually bought one) and simply choke the tree's, and have a tractor simply pull them to shore, you could prolly hook 3 or 4 big ones and slow pull them to the shore and lift with an excavator, and I don't see a need for a chainsaw, just to slide the cable over.

it would require 2 people better with 3, 2 anchors with snatches and 2 tractors.

I'd take 2 of my smaller saws (rather have agility than power), 4 extra chains and a good file.

Once you get going, you'll figure out if it makes sense to have a second person on the pile to hook things up (so you never have to set the saw down)

Or use a skyhook!😉
