Care to give some examples why?
ex: Seeing people walking around, driving, working with a cell phone in one hand would blow people away from 2000.

Why blown away? : because previous generations wouldn’t/didn’t expect a future culture do this.

ex: Search engine shows everyone is a google search (Popes of the past, George Washington, etc) as being black or dark skinned.

Why blown away? : because our culture we were all taught they were a culture of caucasian skin.

ex: gov____ment spends 25 trillion dollars in additional debt. Taking debt from 10 trillion to 34 trillion.

Why blown away? : Because the culture of people in 2000 would never have expected to have such reckless, crippling spending culture in 24 years.

Here’s a fun ex for you: Rock music is virtually gone & replaced by rap/hip-hop music 100%. NEW mainstream Rock music is completely non-existent in 2024.

Why blown away? : Because the 2000 culture would have expected rock music to carry on at least somewhat into the future, but everyone’s listening to the Doobie Brothers or Chicago or Stone Temple Pilots if they want to rock. All groups from before 2000.

Will that suffice, or do you need more examples????? Just let me know. I got plenty more.

Culture changes every few decades. You’d have to be naive or ignorant to not believe previous cultures would be shocked to see what happens in future cultures.

Nope. The last thing I want is being 30 miles from a paved road and having no juice to move the vehicle.
"No problem! Glad we brought plenty of beer and we're making S'mores...with sunshine we should be home by Christmas!

Off the top of my head is legalizing drugs that were illegal, same sex marriage, prosecution free theft in increments under $950, police in full riot gear told to stand down as their precinct and business looted and burned and Federal government dismantling border barriers as masses of people stream through.

My bet is all of the above would be unfathomable by many 25 years ago as least from elders I've heard speaking.
Care to give some examples why?

As someone who graduated from HS in 2001; we had cell phones (as a group, not me specifically), and people talked on them while driving. The same sex marriage, it's not like there wasn't talk about whatever they called it, legal unions, so marriage is only a quarter step beyond that. We abosulety had search engines, "Ask Jeeves", ect. Remember Webcrawler, that was like 1995. Petty theft has Always been a thing, and on that.... don't remember the year, but I was in HS, remember the American 19 y/o "kid" who got caught keying cars in Singapore, and the holy he'll of a political uproar when they convicted him to a caneing? The entire US government wanted zero consequences because it was a "kid" and minor propety damage.

I think some of the more senior members think 24 years ago was 1960...

Even the transgender stuff; it's not like there wasn't cross dressers, and sex changes back then; but it certainly wasn't "accepted" as normal, where maybe now, it seems to be approaching that.

No, I dont think we had to deal with black washing history; but look at 2000 Nickalodian shows; 2 white boys, 1 black, 1 Asian, 1 Hispanic, 3 girls, probably 2 white, and 1 'other', and normally one of the boys was of "questionable" ie, oddly feminized.

I will 100% agree, someone dropped off would probably shake their head in disappointment, but shock? I doubt it.

I will also add, even in 1960, the world wasn't Mayberry.

In the 80s/90s we had wide spread drug problems in WVa, so it wasn't like now, with the opioids, but it wasn't great.

What year were the LA riots? They basically let them burn and loot until they got tired, and it was the "roof top koreans" that kept it from being worse.

A diesel electric system also allows the generator engine to run at its peak efficiency, and a consistent RPM, think PTO RPM on tractor, regardless of the demand at that time, as you can draw additional battery power when needed, and during cruise, the excess power isn't wasted, it's charging the batteries.

Audi ran some cars like that in this year's Dakar rally. The batteries powered the electric motors that drove the car while the engine (a small turbocharged gas engine) ran most of the time to charge the batteries. It was unnerving to hear the engine running at a constant high rpm that didn't vary with the car speed or terrain. But it was successful: they won the race.

I think there's a Dodge/Stellantis/RAM truck that's coming out soon that has a similar type of hybrid where the IC engine just runs a generator to feed the batteries. As long as there's enough battery capacity, it's simpler than the current hybrid system where the IC engine both drives a generator and the vehicle sometimes.

Diesel electric locomotives are a more primitive system with no batteries, just the IC engines, generators and motors. But they still get the advantage of electric motors' high torque at low rpm.

I think part of the divide on this is; some stuff was not as visible 20/30/40 years ago, but it still went on. Not like drug murders, pedoes, "alternative lifestyles", addiction, school shootings, terrorism, or whatever are new; they just weren't talked about. They warned kids about kidnappers, they just didn't talk about molesters, but thats what people meant. If what some this is, you used to trust the US government was for the people, and not for themselves, that has always been the case, and you just where happily ignorant of the truth back then.

Dont disagree that everything you mention existed but the difference is it is no longer fringe but instead codified by law...

Remember 25 years ago many things came under zero tolerance... 3 strikes, etc...

We are far from that now for many things...

My city didn't have thousands of smash and grabs or thousands of auto thefts...

Being caught with personal use Meth or Cocaine or Weed meant a trip downtown.

The most blatant in your face is people shooting up in the doorways and public parks and law enforcement taking no action or the block after block of city streets with homeless camps... shocking is the only word to describe.

In 2000 good family friends moved to New Zealand for employment and only returned to the Bay Area in 2023...

They kept saying it's a third world country seeing the camps and open drug use and yes... their rental car had the window smashed just a mile from the airport...

On the tech side I think self driving cars would be high on the list...

I mean a car anyone can go out and buy and not cost bajillion dollars and a project of NASA or the DOD.
