Those 7.3 Power strokes were the pinnacle of the diesels in pickups, for sure.

Now that is beautiful, and damn near immaculate!

Yeah, no my friend the 5.9L Cummins of that era was much better. It was much heavier duty with a longer B rating/duty cycle.
5.9L Cummins was found in pretty big farm tractors & tandem axle dump trucks.

7.3’s never made it to those extremes.

It’s replacing the 5.7 hemi in the 1/2 ton (1500 series) trucks and the v8s in SUVs.

Ram is keeping the 6.4 hemi in the 2500/3500/4500/5500 series trucks .
The hemi may be on the way out entirely.

Good point, I forgot about the original Cummins in those Dodge trucks.

It was too bad the rest of the early Dodge trucks was so crappy. I remember the feel of the interior plastic and hardware was really poor.

The new one is even better, but more complicated. The 6.7L is still used in farm tractors, tandem & tri-axle trucks. I cannot say the Ford 6.7L is though.

I didn’t mind it too much. The Dodge seats back then were nicer than the Ford seats.

Fords biggest claim to fame is their sales numbers.

I'm not brand loyal and swap between Fords and GM. My daughter has a 2017 Ram 3500 SRW, CC, Cummins. We bought it with 156K miles on it. It's at 186K now and I've rebuilt the trans, new turbo and some front end work. Just fixed a leaking front cam shaft seal last week. Unfortunately, the truck was bought in the middle of covid years, when used trucks were scarce to find and I think it's lived a hard life.

Before I bought my 2020 F250, I took all the brands for a drive. I passed on the GM because I think it was their first year of a model change. I really liked the Ram, but the one I test drove threw a fault code during the test drive and we had to limp back to the dealership. I'm still not convinced Ram/Mopar/Stellantis has ever fixed their transmission achilles heal. Their transmissions have been poor in all their vehicles for years and always make me nervous.

I have 86K on the F250 and have been really happy with it, so far.

Get the Aisin transmission. It's darn near perfect.

Although, some that use their diesel as a car (not towing) don't think so.

You are talking about the standard duty transmission.

The optional Aisin transmission is stout and has an excellent reputation.

The Ford transmission is experiencing problems. I hope you don’t have any.

What's been the problems with the latest Ford 10-speed? I believe they were made as a joint effort between Ford and GM, although there are some slight differences.
