I live in a very rural area and my EV works fine for any situation.
They simply will work for most people in most areas.
According to the map there's nothing "very rural" anywhere near Texarkana. But I see Interstates, lots of regular roads, cities and towns.

And I'm not sure I could call this place "very rural", since I can get to an interstate in about two hours...if driving fast. About the time it takes you to drive to Dallas.

It's probably that people around here are hopelessly uneducated and that's why nobody has an EV. Or...it could be because they're practically useless here. Even in the summer.

Do you really think that anyone who buys one of those tesla trucks is actually going to use it for, you know, truck stuff? :ROFLMAO:  It's strictly a "show off" vehicle, only cargo anyone is gonna put in there is a set of golf clubs when they take it to the country club.
There's no way in a hot place below that I'd spend that much money on ANY pickup.

How much does a Tesla 4x4 pickup with skid plates cost? How much does it weigh? I sometimes use my Colorado because my company Tundra weighs too much to get where I need yo go.

You only have one vehicle?
I have a F250 Diesel to do real work. My EV is for running errands and going to work.

This is getting weird.

Sounds like whoever owns the most EVs get to decide the company's rules.

Let me refresh your short confused memory.
Part of the post I responded to stated:

“ The company I work for provides our vehicles and they offered the Tesla Model 3 up for us this past year, since I was due for a new car I went and test drove one and they are really cool cars so I decided to order one, until the fleet company called me and listed all the requirements and suggestions for owning an EV. For one I dont have the 250 amp service to my house required by my fleet company for charging, then they also suggested I do not park it in my garage due to risk of fire.”

“I don’t have the 250 amp service to my house”
He didn’t state what amp service he currently has but that would be a simple upgrade. I have 200 amp service and charge at 24 amps. 240 volt charger was $400.

“Do not park it in my garage due to risk of fire”
Non issue.

I would have asked the company if they would have paid to upgrade my home to 250 amps even though that is not necessary.

I will never own one but if folks want one then have it. I think we are decades away from EV’s being common place and decades away from an infrastructure that can handle it.
I don’t own one because it’s not suitable for my uses, living 35 miles from town and frequently taking long trips of 600+ miles. But when I do go into the city, I see more and more people driving EVs. They are commonplace now in urban areas.

It does sound like he has at least two to pick from.

Either way, for actual real work there are 3500s, 4500s and 5500s. Those 3/4-tons aren't quite what it takes (including having only single rear wheels) for real work.

Then again, "real work" could be like "very rural"...not quite what it sounds like.

An EV would work for if u charged at home. Now whether you want one is a different story.

What town and state do you live in?

Depends on what your definition of “real work” is. If you mean hauling trailers and heavy cargo, then those duelies can’t be beat. For snowplowing or muddy roads, single rear wheels are far better.

I hope I can put this in a way that will sink in: An EV would not work for us, at all.

Okay, we have joked about getting one to go to the post office with since it's close, but one would fail miserably for any other of our regular uses.

In the case of my girlfriend, her driving is primarily for normal shopping and such. A trip to Costco, for example, is about 160 miles. One way. Considering the elevation changes and that there are no chargers at Costco, that just isn't feasible for an EV even if it was a perfect 70 degrees, instead of the -10 or -20 it can be.

Yes, there are stores much closer (some 70 and 100 miles away), but while those could be reached with an EV, those pesky elevation changes, and potentially also temperatures, makes it questionable to make it back home again.

Please keep in mind that while we're only somewhat rural, the nearest stoplight is about 70 miles from here. Thankfully, charging stations are all over the place. NOT.

For me, most of my driving is a minimum of 300 miles one way, and towing anywhere between a little empty 5,000-lb. trailer (10K GVWR) to a larger one totaling 25K lbs.

In the past couple of weeks I've driven some 3,300 miles between two trips. Filled up twice, stopped for sleeping for two hours on one of the trips.

Basically, an EV would be beyond a joke for me, and only potentially feasible for some of my girlfriend's driving. Being that she has six cars as it is, she's not about to buy an EV.

Where we live? It's 10 miles to the nearest village of 1,300. As mentioned, not very rural, but at least real rural.
