That looks to be of the 'No Thank You' subspecies.

I’m not sure what it is but it doesn’t look like any garter snake I’ve ever seen. Gopher snake??

From the Wikipedia page:
Gartersnake2128.JPG

Interesting that what we call Garter Snakes actually are 35 different subspecies across the USA. Around here they are mostly black with a white stripe or black with a red stripe. I don't think I've ever seen one with such a golden color.

Harmless to humans. They do have a stinky smell if you handle them.

Good Afternoon Newbury,
Why was the snake raking leaves for you?
Was it doing a good job?
:)
He was slacking ! 😂 Didn’t think he liked the temps this morning ! 😉

Never have I seen a snake that exactly matches the picture in "the snake book"
For that matter the bird book, the mushrooms book or any other dam book.
At least not enough to know weather to shoot it or eat it, or pass on it! 🤔

That isn't a garter, that's a Dekay's brown snake....

Well, good thing this isn't Australia with some of the deadliest snakes on the planet.

It looks like the Dekay's is related to the Garter, but not actually a garter.

Tiny, non-poisonous and eats stuff you don't want around.
Sounds pretty good to me.
I always thought these were garters, as we (now that I know) have lots of both around here.

I don't think it is a garter snake but, I don't know what kind of sake it actually is.

and my favorite
Corn snake - Wikipedia vs. copperhead vs. coral snake
I have seen corn snakes here, small ones.
When you think you are next to a copperhead, you move fast :)
