Howard Rotavator Rototiller Clutch assembly

I have an old Howard rotovator rototiller (Model HN) with a 12 compression spring twin disc pad slip clutch. I had to replace the friction pads recently but found that the metal plate between the friction disc pads is deformed (no longer truly flat - see pictures). As a result one of the new pads was instantly "shredded". Any idea where I can get a replacement for this or if there is another new clutch assembly that would one compatible with an old Howard rototiller

With an acetylene torch you could probably get the disk reasonably flat, then clean it up with either a lathe, or ask a brake shop if they could true it up for you.

Is that a standard PTO shaft on the tiller end? If so you should be able to find suitable replacement clutches or PTO shafts with clutches.

I would convert it ASAP, even if it initially cost more.

I have three Howards and the clutch parts are stupid expensive, and harder to get than clutch parts for my Woods rotary cutters.

What did you have to pay for the clutch pads? I had my clutch smoking pretty good recently breaking up some new lawn for a neighbor.

Probably didn't charge enough to do the job.

IF the clutch was smoking tilling sod, then you didn't have your clutch properly adjusted!
