Not Enough Babies?

I thought labor saving automation and AI predicted to result in vast surplus of labor?

Back in engineering school the prediction was finding ways to occupy free time and shortened work weeks with more time for leisure pursuits?
I thought you were an optical surgeon. Are you also an engineer or am I totally confused?

True. But how do you know which Spanish speakers in Walmart are U.S. born citizens and those who aren’t? In my state, Spanish colonials have been here 400 years, and most switch between Spanish and English, depending on the audience or who they want to keep the conversation secret from.
Nature abhors a vacuum. There's no need to worry about a declining birth rate.

Conversational Spanish is often a make or break skill when looking for many jobs in California.

So many of the trades are Spanish language dominated plus highly sought in the medical provider field...

Every working day I interact with Spanish only patients and Spanish is the single largest group of non English speakers.

Back in High School the statistics teacher said if couples postponed children to minimum age 30 the rate of generational reproduction would be dramatically curtailed...

I still encounter grandmothers in their 30's whereas educated professional often don't become grandparents until well into their 60's

A big part of global warming is living beyond our means.

I for one would be happy if the global population stabilized, and would decrease somewhat.

The Earth has over 8 billion people to support now. When I was born, we had less than half that.

Fewer people would mean more resources for those on Earth, and it would be much easier to generate our power needs with renewables.

Hospital Chief Engineer 33 years on the job which has put me in some interesting situations including patient care being Femto Laser Assisted Cataract certified as 36% of current census is Ophthalmology...

Add contract negotiations including leases, major building systems such as medical gas, steam boilers, HVAC, UL Fire systems, Emergency Generators, Biomed, CCTV, local, state, federal compliance/licensing, owners representative for construction projects, etc...

In 33 years not once has a surgery been cancelled due to a facility issue...

I'm amazed and don't even know what a Hospital Chief Engineer does.
Did you take courses similar to a civil engineer or an architectural engineer and also go to med school?

AI will solve all our problems...just like NFT's...and EV's.

Most first world countries are not reproducing to actually replace the population. Some peoples of the world, some groups, do in fact. They are very intentional about growing there populations and moving to areas where population is on the decline.
Some issues may be physical, but some birth rate issues are certainly societal.
I'm interested in fertility and mortality rates when the youth who were vaccinated in the last several years, become child bearing age. Just curious if that will turn out like the revelation this week that WE DID fund gain of function research in Wuhan. 🙄.

Course work in Code Compliance, Project Management, Maintenance and Operation, Finance Management, Facilities Management all help.

Mechanical Engineers are top cadidates for this position. Need a good understanding of HVAC as it relates to patient health, ie; reasons for rooms having negative and positive pressures. Controlling humidity to keep infection risk low. Knowledge of Electrical systems, required life safety systems and on and on.
People in Hospital facilities management/maintenance require a well rounded understanding of multiple trades theory and code application.
In todays lean enviroment, understanding budgeting and finance plays heavy in there too.
Not a position for the faint at heart, this is an on the fly thinking position to address sometime critical problems without making errors.
