How many acres can I mow per hour?

I clear the pastures around 9mph with my 6FT KK brush mower.

Up the road from my place the person has a modern Kubota with cab, he flies thru his acres too, and it looks great!

Well sorry my chart didn't figure on you and your neighbor but if that's the case you should be covering close to 6 acres an hour, that's getting after it for a 6' cutter, them have to be some really smooth fields.

I mow my acres at 2.36 mph, according to my Kubota. If I went any faster it would be dangerous; the terrain is so rough. So that chart is good only for someone mowing smooth level ground.

Takes a long time to mow 50 acres with a 6' rotary mower at 2.36 mph............

4 years ago those fields were horrible. I've disc harrowed several times to smooth and tame them down considerably. Plus, there are no gopher holes since all of the disc harrowing was done.

One other benefit is to sharpen the brush blades a little finer than the OE coarse cutting edge. And the attack angle with the top-link.

Lastly, the Harbor Freight quick hitch keeps everything true and tight. The brush mower will not wander, it tracks precisely.

Well according to the chart if you are using a 6' mower at the speed you claim you are cutting close to an acre and a half per hour whether it's smooth or rough, so I don't understand why the chart is only good for someone cutting smooth ground, help me understand.

My lawn goes around all my out buildings, house and several large pines. All tolled it's a tad over 2 1/2 acres. I have a JD 750 MMM with a 48 inch deck. I seldom mow it all at one time. But if I do - takes about 3 hours.

Some of my lawns are smooth as a pool table. Others are meadows that have been mowed for years and look almost as good as lawns. The meadows can be quite rough and sloped. Increased speed will simply eject me from the mower. It is what it is.

I usually mow at 2.4 mph with my 12 foot batwing, but I doubt that I'm getting 3 acres per hour mowed. That seems like a lot to me, but I'm also dodging trees and having to go over the same areas multiple times to get to the areas that still need cutting.

It's an interesting chart that gives me an idea of what I should be getting done. Maybe I'll get there one day when I remove some more trees!!!!

I guess the chart assumes perfect lines and there is no overlap.

I’ve been mowing quite a long time with a 60 inch zero turn. But - I doubt if I made 3 passes that I cut exactly 180 inches of grass.

Maybe it doesn’t really matter time wise if I cut 180 inches or 170 inches?

"Obstacles" is I guess what I would call them. If I were mowing in a straight line that chart would work. But I'm having to make detours around bad spots so that adds to miles driven but not actual miles mowed because part of the time the mower is lifted up and not mowing, or going over areas already mowed.

Yeah, I don't know that it takes in account for trees , brush piles, rocks, trash piles, etc, I think it's probably just giving an idea that with a certain width mower and you holding a set MPH mowing grass and weeds that you can expect to get X number of acres mowed per hour, I have checked this chart a couple of different times and have found it to be fairly accurate for what I was mowing.

I'm retired. So time makes little difference to me. I mow when the sun shines and I can enjoy the ride.

Statistical mowing charts are pointless. Nobody is mowing a flat straight line with no turns and a 100% steady speed. Every turn adds time. Every variation in speed adds/decreases time.

Okay, you could mow in a circle if you wanted to nothing about the mowing chart says you have to mow in a straight line and there is some compensation in the chart for overlap and other things, it's just a general guide to give someone an idea of how much ground they are covering per hour.

My point is the mowing chart is not practical in the real world. It's using static values that do not fit the reality of the majority of environments. Sure, it's a possibility but it's not a probability.

Age gives you a different perspective. I'm not a business. I get paid the same however long it takes me to mow my own place. I'm not in competition with myself or anyone else.

It takes as long as it takes is the way I look at it. I do have a good neighbor I help out from time to time and only charge him the fuel used. If I were to do mowing for anyone else it would be for pay. It would be an agreed upon hourly rate starting when I left the house and ending when I got home. Again taking as long as it takes, otherwise find someone else to do it, I don't need the headaches, hassles or the money.

That's funny, I just did 30 acres today and was within 20 minutes of what the chart said, so it was definitely practical in the real world for me, I do a good bit of mowing and tractor work for others so I use it occasionaliy when someone insist on an hourly rate, but in your situation it probably doesn't apply to you.
