How do you define "simple courtesies"? I'm in my 70s, and was taught men always held chairs, opened car doors for women and helped them put on/take off their coat. If I were a woman, I think I'd find any of those actions to be rather condescending, though I wouldn't bark at someone who did it but I probably would tell them politely that I'm perfectly capable of doing these things myself. Agree that having a hissy over it is uncalled for.Why do some people have a problem with simple courtesies?
This isn't a situation I come across very often, if at all. I have no problem referring to someone the way they prefer to be, but don't expect me to magically know ahead of time and don't yell at me if I inadvertently get it wrong. After all, not everyone named Richard wants to be called Rick.By far pronoun use is the current minefield.
Some people are just prickly by nature and seem to enjoy taking it out on people who don't share their beliefs, the women's libbers of the 70s were among them. Then again, I can name several here on TBN who have little to no tolerance of anyone who doesn't endorse their views too.Forty something years ago I was a young 4/C Cadet at a Military Academy. I was heading into am English literature class and I arrived at the building door about the same time as a middle aged professionally dressed woman. I held the door for her and got a lecture about being a sexist pig. When the lecture started I tried to say a word or two and was shut down so I said excuse me and walked off to find my class. Low and behold who do you think my instructor turned out to be? The very feminazi that lectured me on holding a door for a lady. I passed the course but it was an uncomfortable semester.

Occasionally there are secondary benefits to ‘ladies first’.I was at a QT buying gas the other day and a kid was holding the door open for some people entering/leaving the building. Old guy walked past him going in and said "Hey, you're lettin' the flies in". I LOL'd.![]()
Never understood that. I’ll take a pancaked unequal tiny pair of real ones over the most perfectly-shaped fakes, any day.Mostly referring to Breast Augmentation...
I don't either especially when patients also come in for reductions plus there are those that have implants removed...Never understood that. I’ll take a pancaked unequal tiny pair of real ones over the most perfectly-shaped fakes, any day.![]()
