So, real world impact has been less than 900 units, but they recalled 100k.
If you think that's bad look at the battery issues with the GM Bolt. Less than 0.1% worldwide had issues yet all batteries were replaced.

It will be interesting what Toyota will be doing about this issue. Will they pull the oil pan and inspect the main bearings for damage? Will they repair or replace the engine? Who knows?

No matter which way they go with the repairs I feel comfortable in saying that Toyota will make it right.

Toyota owner here.
Owned multiple Camry's, corola's. Now i have 4runner i bought in 2009. It has 260K miles on it with not a single issue. Brakes, tires, oil and filter. that is it. Most reliable vehicles i cold imagine
Being absolutely happy with all of them i went and bought a new 2024 Tundra Platinum.

1. Wile driving home 4 out of 4 moldings on the doors fell of. They are on national backorder with no ETA
2. Next day i found a couple of spots were there was damage on the paint which were covered with the clear coat and very roughly polished. It was not the dealership fault because i took the possession of the vehicle 1 hour after it was delivered.
3. in less than 1k miles, while accelerating all warning light lit up and the motor died in the middle of freeway.
The vehicle was taken to the dealership where they changed the fuel pump, but since then every acceleration the vehicle jumps and wants to dye. After spending 1 month at their shop they declared they need to change main harness which is, you guessed it, on the national backorder with no ETA.
Toyota refuse to declare it as a lemon on grounds "We do not believe we failed to repair your vehicle"
It is already 6 month, now the case at the KY DA office.

So, yes, 2024 Tundra is junk for only one reason :It is the most American car. Even more American then ford, gmc etc.
It was developed in the US, build in the us, and now we have even longer line of not reliable tracks made in the US

It's possible that Toyota has changed its Texas work force, voluntarily or was forced to due to labor shortages. Who knows the people running or working at the engine plant or the assembly plant? What are their demographics?

My '08 Tundra SR5 Turd model has 295000 miles and is running fine. Zero issues so far but I would not want a turbo anything now. Exceptions are turbo diesels.

Why I keep driving my 97 F350. It never sees snow or salt and will last me until I no longer need to drive. Been paid for for decades. I'm not to buy a new overpriced truck loaded with gadgets that will ultimately fail.

I would, if I were you, is pray every day "Oh Lord, let me not become a curmudgeon as I age." It might be a little late for you but you can try.

It always was that way so let's hope it stays that way.

From what it sounds like, they don't have a plan yet for repairs. It will be interesting how long it will take for customers to get their vehicles back.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade and I have driven or owned Toyotas for over 50 years.
To say that Toyota will take care customers is Totally off the mark, as in hogwash.

In the past 15-20 years and as recently as a year ago, Toyota has settled many lawsuits, class action suits, over a plethora of complaints. My wife's Toyota Prius had an inverter issue where the electronics in the HV inverter could fail and could, and did, leaving motorists stranded in a middle lane of a busy California freeway. There were some reported fatalities.

I would love to say that TMC stepped up to the plate and assisted all of the affected car owners but no, they denied, denied denied, were caught in lies and were caught lying in Court and the NTSB over this, the gas pedal sticking issue, the emissions issue, their cut throat consumer loan practices etc
I would estimate that TMC has paid out well over 2 billion dollars in fines to the Feds and compensation to US consumers.

These were not voluntary paybacks or rebates. TMC was forced to do so. I did not mentioned all of the criminal complaints and it grieves me to give a synopsis on a company I once thought very highly of. NO MORE.

Just search for Toyota class action suits. re our Tundra's, expect more lies and obfuscation.

I still think very highly of my old Tundra, but trust the dealer or the Corp? NO F Way.

of course YMMV
