Question for those who live in California

Looks like residential electric Utility customers will pay a new fixed monthly charge based on income.

Most customers will pay more but people who use a lot of electricity, especially low income with electric vehicles will most likely come out ahead.

Those that tend not to use a lot like apartment dwellers with a frugal lifestyle will pay more.

The full new monthly charge is to begin at $25.15 each month discounted to as low as $6 per month for low income plus lower cost per kW.

It’s not a simple calculation and solar adds a twist.

W are they going to determine what your income level is?

To start it is to be by declaration from what I read...

Hire a homeless to put the electric service into their name, pay in cash....

Low income, low rates. You don't have to own, rent or occupy a property in order to turn on and pay for service. If the bill is paid they could care less....

I'm terrible about reading rules and using what they said not what they meant.

Looks like the proposed $6,000 per vacation home tax in Tahoe is simple.

If enacted, you have to pay it. But although you will have to pay it, you don't get to vote.

Hmmm-- something about taxation without representation?

Two letters received encouraging change of domicile enabling South Lakes Tahoe voting.

It's fundamentally wrong the entire concept of vacancy taxation...

But it is spreading with no signs of slowing down...

That lit you bought and saving to build your retirement home... Stop bad... pony up another 6k to hold onto it.

That vacation cabin you built... well unless you can prove occupied more than 180 days per year too bad and don't think you can rent it out for a couple of months because we will not allow that...

Idiotic...

I give him credit for understanding the issue.
From the article:

"Still, Newsom argued that the extreme gridlock in Congress necessitates this type of action. "

"Gridlock" is universally panned in our modern media. It is what our founders designed into our system. If gridlock exists there is not a strong level of support to move in one direction or another.

Agreed. I shudder to think of what a mess this country would be in if either party was able to impose their full agenda on us.

A match made in heaven-- CA Gov Newsom signs a law increasing taxes designed to diminish gun ownership. A two-for-one.

Somebody told me that only now that the tax has been implemented can we start the process to repeal it. IDK but my source was well educated on the matter. If that is the case I expect to see a repeal moving forward. Meanwhile I stocked up prior to the start date.

...Like a weekly occurrence. CA spends 37% of it's nearly 300k annual budget on health and human services. 35% on education. The remaining smaller 28% is spent on whatever the rest of us require including infrastructure repair and building, fire fighting, etc.

Observation on the gas weed whacker ban in my and surrounding cities.

The State Cal Trans crews are out in full force… an army of gas weed whackers cleaning up the hillsides in prep for fire season plus the public schools also using gas whackers…

Maybe not so much of a concern being that the FBI, IRS and Postal Law Enforcement group raided the mayor’s home, and office/homes of the waste recycling contractor for the city.

Amazing how the Govt makes stringent rules for the public and then exempts themselves... Would love to see them out there on the roadsides with battery power trimmers... But why are they not? Afterall CA is pro green power.
I'll tell you why not - because battery power is just not suitable for this application. Thanks but no thanks CA.
I bought a new Echo gas trimmer this year and I love it.

Were you able to buy local?

My local mower shop has almost no inventory but has never had so much repair business with folks wanting to keep their gas powered equipment in good order.

Ironically enough I started this thread on what I thought was mis information on taxes (which it was), but after going through this thread, as much as I will look forward to visiting California again, no way would I want to move there now LOL
