DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone questions

I do not agree that you need a 107 to post drone content to YouTube. YouTube hasn’t ever sent me a penny for my content. Probably never will. There is literally drone footage now in every YouTube video out there. There is nothing in the regs that say if your videos are publicly available you need a 107. If you sell your videos, you need a 107.

re reread what we said, if there are ad's or monetized video's FAA has come after people.

If YouTube puts an ad inside the viewing of my video, you are saying I need a license? Hmm. There are ads all over this page, so if I post drone footage in this post, I need a license? Isn’t that the same?

I think I understand what the regs say, so I feel comfortable about it. I guess like a CDL, you have to decide for yourself.

Business content oriented towards running a business is what the regs are about.

Ah, I have never noticed it. Just the below settings. Which one?

I see the similarity of individual choice that you are proposing, but I think that the FAA is a very different group than roadside state troopers. Searching YT for video content is easily automated, as is a search for the presence of an ad, at which point the party is over, and the only discussion is the size of the penalty. I think that it is a lot more effort to find the over GVWR driver/driver driving for commercial reasons.

The rule 107 training and exam ($175) is on the order of $350.

Regardless, it is an individual choice, but I be mindful of how things could go sideways.

All the best,

Peter

lol, not trying to derail the thread more than I already have, but it is simple thing to see dually pickups with 14k trailers to pull over to ticket.

But I get it, I agree if there is some setting in YouTube that says in effect pay me for my content, you are asking for trouble. But simply saying that posting drone footage on YT is a problem, is not exactly correct. So I am not worried, since I will never want ads in my content.

I find it interesting that the tacit assumption is that if there is spyware in the cameras it cannot be detected. Or defeated. I mean, if the cameras truly have software that can be used for spying, which is a bad thing and should be stopped, why cannot it not be detected? And then defeated? I don't know enough about software to have any idea if any type of spyware cannot be defeated. Hopefully someone on this site does know and can educate those of us who are ignorant about these kind of things. Like me.
Eric

Software that does anything beyond extremely simple like a calculator is a huge complex mess of unpredictable junk. It's impossible to prove that software will never do something bad. The best you can do is to test it under a lot of conditions, and then the best you can get is that under your test conditions it didn't do anything bad.

In this case "bad" could be a bug or it could be something malicious. They're both the same problem.

That said I'm not too concerned that China's security services are putting malware into drone software. They probably have access to the cloud servers where data may be stored if you do it that way (I try to avoid cloud anything). They likely use that to spy on Chinese citizens. They may or may not spy on citizens of other nations. I don't know if DJI drones even do cloud storage, or if the ones sold in the US store data in China. There are good technical reasons for a company that large to store cloud data in country, especially for a market the size of the US.

Given that I'm a nobody who would be uninteresting to spies from any nation, I'd be fine with storing my data on a card (which is how I think it works anyhow) using a DJI drone.

the issue is being monetized on youtube, ie you are getting paid by youtube. I have drone videos pictures on my page, i'm not monetized. You have to meet a certain number of subscribers, something like at least 1K, and a certain watch time before you can monetize, I don't think I'll ever reach that.
