Ron, nice pix! Presume a woodpecker with strong beak and red head?

Oh it was wonderful here yesterday with cloud cover and an occasional thunderstorm. Temps in the mid-80's after so many 100F+ days. Going to 93F today.

A disappointment-- Big Boy locomotive did not make it here yesterday for a public event due to a track issue in Roseville, CA. It is due today, but only for an employee event closed to the public. Then it heads east-- hmmm, maybe I need a road trip to chase it!!

Everyone have a great day!!!
too bad on the big boy. I heard a tree across the track, that maybe it hit. had to do some repairs, and they said they would make up the time lost......

They're talking derecho, more towards Illinois. I still lived in the Chicago area when the last one came through. Pretty scary.
I remember the 2012 one well. I was driving to Ohio, was in western MD. We were driving thru woods and the trees were blowing so hard I was afraid one would fall. we got to interstate and stopped under an Interstate bridge. Wasn't sure that was even a safe place.
Got to Ohio, power was out (for at least a week). Big trees uprooted near the farm. Came home and went to scout camp down below Roanoke, they were still without power at the camp 2 weeks later. Power came on a couple days into the camp.

Spent some time laying out the components that go between the boiler and radiant heat loops. There is a fill valve, thermostatic mixing valve, hydraulic separator, circulator, zone valves, air separator and expansion tank to fit in a fairly small place, and plumb correctly.
I’ve never done a radiant heat system, so there is a batch of head scratching as I figure it out.
One challenge is that the boiler has a minimum set point of 104° and the radiant loops should be under 85. I’m planning on addressing that with the mixing valve and using an outdoor temperature sensor and programming a steep reset curve into the boiler that could drop the temp as low as 36°.
If there are any hydronic heat experts here, I’d love to get your thoughts.
@WoodChuckDad put in a similar unit. He sometimes drops on this thread. I don't think he has hooked up his loops yet though, thinking just his hot water.

I know my system still in my basement just has a water fill valve, an air scoop (I think it's called, that removes air from the line) with a small pressure tank above it. my circulator pump was on the boiler, and I put in zone valves, that I never could get to work. basically the zone valves took 12V signal to open when thermostat called for heat. I used a 12V relay that triggered when thermostat called for heat, with a stronger 12V supply to power the zone valve.
1" output line to air scoop & expansion tank, then it splits to two 3/4" each with a zone valve.

water makeup valve goes into return line, and circulator pump on input to boiler.

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 8:00AM. Areas of fog early, becoming sunny this afternoon. High 71F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

How you gonna fit all those nice machine tools in your already crowded barn, Kyle? Wish I was close enough to help!

Beautiful table, Ken.

I had Eufy cameras for a while, chosen mainly because they were Apple HomeKit friendly. They were battery only, and I got rid of them. Sounds like the current crop can be powered via USB. One pitfall many people seem to fall into is not checking the video from their cameras to verify that they can actually capture enough detail to identify a face or license plate. A 1080P camera will only do that close up, and 4K range can also be surprisingly short. Also, WiFi range can be a problem, too, as can POI power if you're using Ethernet cameras. If people were honest, it would sure save us all a lot of complication.

Delivered a bucket and a box full of Honda 90 engine parts that came with one I bought a few years ago. Met the guy that wanted 'em in a parking lot, and he starts to make noise about the condition of some of the parts. Yeah, they're used, as stated in the ad. And I'd gone a fair distance out of my way to deliver 'em. So he makes an offer way below the stated price. And I tell him I'll just sell them to someone else. He pulls a wad of bills out of his pocket and hands it to me, enough to cover the original price. If condition of the parts was an issue for him, why didn't he ask before he decided to meet and save us both a bunch of time. At least a buddy and I got a nice bicycle ride out of it, the only reason I'd agreed to the hour and a half delivery trip.

Nice weekend here, catching up on groceries, then yesterday a bicycle ride from the beach at Goleta inland on a nice and mostly shady bicycle path. On the e-bike. Legs tell me they're way out of shape, lungs, too. Too much anaerobic work, need more real exercise.

The big fire east of here continues to burn, and the information coming out about it is getting pretty sparse. As of 14 hours ago, it was a little over 38,000 acres. The sky here was hazy all weekend, and you could smell the smoke. Doesn't seem like anyplace in California is safe from smoke anymore.

I was dropping a buddy off after the bike ride yesterday when we noticed the neighbor lady fooling around under the dash of her car. We wandered over to say hello, and were told the brake lights weren't shutting off and it was killing her battery. A clerk at the FLAPS had sold her a new interlock switch, but when I took a look on YouTube the problem turned out to be a bad rubber grommet on which the interlock switch pressed. We found an M5 bolt and nut to fill the hole that was formerly filled by the grommet, installed it, and made sure the brake lights still worked. I guess I'll find out later this week if that fixed it. Sure hope so, 'cause it's plenty crowded under that dash, and I can't even see the other end of the interlock switch...

Hope everyone's week gets off to a nice start...

Good Monday Morning
67°F and .29 inches rain. Starting off rainy again.

When it clears up hope to get the little Chevy Spark cleaned up, ready to sell. Needs a good vacuuming. Might do the upholstery. Pretty sure I can recover at least what I paid for it. Need to take it into town for Safety inspection which expired end of June.

Several other errands like Home Depot. We finish day meeting friends for in town Happy Hour at Cafe Pesto. One of our pricier choices and we have met there in some time. Food is always good.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
