Which lawn tractor to buy?

Deere X380 from the deere tractor shop, NOTHING from the big box stores. My LX 280 deere is 12 yrs old and runs perfectly with no front end trouble, engine trouble or anything else. Kawasaki engine starts right up even after setting all winter. Cuts 48 inch. Deere makes great riders, just stay away from Lowes, Home depot and the like. Buy the 300 series or higher pending how much land you mow.

You can come up to speed here on what JD is doing.

Disclosure: I have no dog in this hunt. I refused to consider JD products because of what was addressed in the video.
Also, JD refuses to allow owners to repair their equipment, you have to pay for them to connect computer to activate replaced part.
Seems like a micro$oft business model eh? heh..
And maybe search her channel for some recommendations.
If the MTD model(s) are not suitable and the earlier questions considered, then maybe a ZT mower?

I'm not sure that the electric clutch's are more problem free. I have seen a lot of reports that the way the clutch slams into motion tends to break belts.

And when the electric clutch fails, you are looking at a big price for a new clutch.

But it doesn't really matter, as I don't think you can purchase a new lawn tractor that does NOT have an electric clutch.

Richard

The JD X 500 electro clutch just failed about a month back on me. The solenoid action works but all of the clutch material is gone 900+ hours. When it failed it was instantaneous.

I could have got a cheaper knock off replacement but it was stuck on the shaft pretty badly... which required drilling and tapping puller holes and a few hours of labor, so I bit on the JD factory part $260 (had it the next AM) hoping it will be higher quality and go another 900 hours.

I believe most Deere mowers are made in Horicon Wisconsin
Is that plant still open? I used to haul them out of there decades ago, full semi trailer (flat bed) loads and deliver them to dealers all over the north east. Didn't know that plant was still operational but then I don't bleed green anyway. I bleed orange as in Kubota.

If looking at JD models, and particularly the X300 series, look to see which ones have power steering. Not all do.

I can steer my X390 with my finger.

I picked it up last month and have used it only on one mow before some crazy rains and now surgery recovery. It's the first rider I've been on since I was maybe 10. I'm practically an expert on all things mowers now.;)

Got off the truck from JD the day before I picked it up. Dealer didn't even put their sticker on it. Made in USA, but don't know where.

I have a John Deere X320 from the JD dealer. Love it. I also have a Husqvarna. They are both good mowers, but the JD X320 is a better overall machine.

I have an x330 Deere and it's a good, problem free mower. It replaced a Husqvarna of similar size which wore out pretty quickly, like 300 hours, but I think the hour meter always read lower than actual. It was worth the extra money to upgrade from the economy models.

How long do you want it to last ? Are you using accessories ? How big is the area you cut ? How fast do you want to cut it ? Do you need a suspension mower seat or unit ? Is the terrain terrible for bumps ? All questions to answer first.
I have about 1 acre to mow, the terrain is pretty good, fairly flat, and I don't need a suspension seat. And I don't want a zero turn.
Thanks,
Eric

I think it cost me $2K when it was brand new, and I'm happy enough with it that I would buy another one if this one died.
Thank you, that's just the kind of reply I'm looking for.
Eric
