just remember most bears are left handed so take the jab and dodge the left 😉🫡
Really?
I never once considered that.
I'll try to remember when the time comes :)

Well picking up after themselves is not a lot of peoples strong suit
I backpacked through a lot of bear country my youth without issues.
I have camped in the boundry waters in northern Minnesota where you had to hang your food in a tree.

Just remember, you don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the person with you

Every time I find a bear turd in my back yard, I'm glad to remember we only have black bears, and not brown bears. In 13 years on this property, I've yet to actually see one in person, but I'm constantly thinking about them when making trips between my house and barn in the dark. And I'm finding their giant berry-filled turds in my yard at least several times every year.

Our black bears will almost universally avoid people, if you just jingle your key ring or make any other noise sufficient for them to hear you coming. The only people who ever seem to be hurt by them are those quiet souls who accidentally stumble upon them.

On the flip side, Brown bears terrify me. I hope I never stumble across one of any age, in my travels.

That's a great point, and a good answer for @steve tym's concern about the lack of helmet laws costing taxpayers more money. You might argue it actually saves taxpayers money, by increasing the likelihood of death (rather than paralysis), among those in motorcycle accidents.
In that case it should become mandatory on bicycles but not on motorcycles.

The bicycle is part of Hollands culture for 150 years. Helmets are not. Though both my parents and their neighbours have bought helmets with their electric bikes after my accident, because you have a whole other balance on an electric bike that supports when you push the pedals, making the chance of falling, much bigger.

I am not saying either one (individual health insurance in the USA, or collective healthcare in Europe) is better, but i do see a point in both of them.. if i hadnt payd 30% of my income for social benefits mandatory, i probably would have spent it in my youth instead of saving it. On the other hand, culturally i didnt grew up within a private insurance system, so maybe i would have saved up if i was born within the US healthcare system... just thinking out loud...

I just read a story in Reader's Digest about four young men that were attacked by a Grizzly.

Although less calamitous than some of the others posted on this thread, this one somehow offends me as much or more than any other. I mean, without even understanding gross trailer weight ratings, a 4-year old could look at this one and spot two big problems, one at each end of those 16 footers. What's he thinking?

Having grown up with the European style I can say with certainty which is better.

I agree, that picture offends me horribly. Just such an egregious violation of common sense.

Disclaimer; this theory is as of yet unproven, but boy, if I get the chance..... :)
Just make sure you get camera footage. Once the initial shock wears off, your heirs will appreciate the money they make off your demise.

Tell me.. if you think it might cause social unrest here, PM me... i'd love to hear your point of view, respectfully..

After my skull fracture at 6th of June 2022, it will be next week Tuesday when i meet the insurance doctor who will decide if i get a penny back on my 23 years of paying into the system... (so far my employer had to insure for this, 2 years though they called me in 3 months late because they thought it would be just a concussion) and overworked insurance doctor, good ones have fled this system because of the huge work pressure so poor ones who cant get a job in a more human role in medicine remain, which only exacerbates the problem.

Anyways, i've taken my precautions and started to design something that is patent worthy and when the system doesnt cover me, i will go full USA mode and put my limited energy in free enterprise and let the non-risktakers make the physical effort... I havent been much of a risk taker ever, ive spent too much energy on my payd job. But now my employer let me drop like a dead corpse, i would be back up against a wall, so F em all..

Really, every socialist idea forgets the human factor... all humans are flawed, even the medically educated ones who decide if you get benefits that youve payd 23 years for, or not. Really, a government who promises security, means a pencil pusher who decides whether you get your own money back or not. The more i know i'm going to need social security, the less secure i feel within the system, especially after it hit the newspapers of how they are treating Long-Covid, ME, or aquired brain injury.

Ive been interested in the American way of life and been on TBN for 20 years, but when push comes to shove, i am not sure the European system hailed by Bernie Sanders treats me better...

That verdict depends a lot on your disposable/discretionary income.
It wasn't so much about income as that the "free" care was dismal, to put it mildly.

For example, my knees went out completely and there was a three year wait to see a doctor. Thankfully my mother had contacts and got me in with a private doctor in a mere three months.

Having insurance (on top of paying some 80% in tax for "free" care) was a must.
It may have changed for the better since, which wouldn't be saying much, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Well in my previous post i answered that, and you just acknowledged what i was asking in reply to your previous post.

No matter how much you pay into an insurance system, theres always a flawed human being deciding whether youre a fraud or seriously disabled by misfortune. The more i am going to depend on it, the less i trust it..
