Korean brands are out, heard too much bad stuff.

Leaning towards the mid level models of the three in the subject line for new Fridge, stove (gas) and dishwasher. Going to go with the same brand cause the wife wants black stainless and I think each manufact. has it's own take on black stainless.

You see good and bad reviews for each. I guess it is all about picking the look and features you like and crossing your fingers you don't get a lemon.

Any other advice before I roll the dice?

Before buying, just look up replacement parts availability and cost.

I'd try to stick with "American" brands, and not necessarily out of a sense of patriotism - just the fact that at least in the past their parts have been available for a pretty long period of time so I've been able to fix stuff.

That said, we have an LG washer that's 10 years old now and a new drain pump for it last year on amz was $20 (also 5 years ago, yes I've replaced it twice, easy fix don't need a new washer), so at least for some parts - most likely non-computer-chip type parts - they hopefully are using the same parts in many models for enough time that there's an aftermarket.

What what it's worth. The fridge we will be getting rid of to get new appliances is a Whirlpool that was manufactured in 2010 we are the second owners and it has been flawless for us for 5 years. Everything works perfectly (water, ice, filter timer controls, etc), not a thing broken, stainless still looks almost perfect.

Good Evening Hawkinshollow,
I have Whirlpool at our Ct home and Fridgedaire at the Vermont house ! I agree with what one of the guys posted already, go with what you like and make sure you can get parts for whatever model you choose !

It's hard to tell who makes what now. I have an Amana washer I need to either fix or replace... any information including model # comes back as a Maytag. My GE fridge was made just before getting bought out by a Chinese company.

Just had a Samsung front load washer destroy itself after 3 years. Wife put three small pillows in it and washed them on normal cycle.
During high speed spin it got out of balance and flopped around.
Was so bad it ripped a concrete weight anchor bolt then another one just tore a chunk right out of the tub. needs new tub, anchor bolt and concrete weight as a minimum.

was a 1200 dollar washer with all the fancy stuff including supposed AI. Not sure if its bad design or wifes fault but to keep the peace-I said it was a bad design. Maybe she should have selected pillows on the AI knob.

My new LG is arriving tomorrow,

We have Frigidaire gas range that has been flawless . But rarely do they go bad, no matter the brand.

Hope not, just bought an LG Front load washer to replace a Samsung. LG washer is supposed to be most reliable.

The absolute most reliable are the USA made Speed Queen washers. They are typically made for commercial laundromats. But they also make residential models. They aren’t sold in box stores, only independent appliance stores.

Have all 3 brands you mention in house now. Frigidaire upright freezer from 1982, never been repaired, ( was owned by General Motors at that time). just replaced Whirlpool range that was 36 years old with another whirlpool. GE/ Hotpoint fridge from 1991 still going. Doubt that any of the newer appliances you buy now will last like the ones I named that 30-40 years old and still going

Have had very good service with Bosch dishwashers. Just replaced the one we had that was 19 years old with another Bosch

I’ve had good luck with all of them… but todays appliances are not your mothers appliances.

I agree with you 100% about the longevity of older appliances being far superior.

Oh, but his one has no preheat air fry capabilities! :ROFLMAO: And 6 other oven settings!

Amen to that! The GE top-freezer refrigerator installed in my house 34 years ago is still working great. And the Sears "Coldspot" chest freezer sitting in my basement was made in 1952, 72 years ago, and has never needed repair.

Recently I was reading an article that claimed that the "mechanical" parts of today's appliances still last pretty good...its all the electronic sensors and controls that go bad. So the recommendation was to buy a basic unit with mechanical controls if you want a long-lasting, trouble-free unit.

Absolutely
When the CPU board goes out in just about anything, that's it - and those often last ~5 years
though
Had a repairman claim the board was bad in our wall oven, and I forget what I did, but it's still going now after 23 years (Kitchenaid).
I did have to pull the oven apart and weld the top of the oven chamber back together because the top part of it was dropping it. Not a good design, steam from the oven had rusted little tabs that were holding it together.

OK, to be honest, I didn't read both pages...
Frigidaire is parent company of LG. 3 years ago, I bought 2 refrigerators, gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer. All LG. After 3 years, the fridge stopped working. Since there are no authorized dealers remotely close to us, LG offered a full refund. Great, right? it was June 25th when my nightmare started. Long story short, LG is doing everything they can to NOT refund my money. Wife did search online, you can do your own, and LG has class action lawsuit against them for using linear compressors, that fail at a high rate.
UGH!!!
Stay away from LG refrigerators...

Frigidaire is a U.S. company. Are you saying they own the Korean company LG?

Sorry, I got misinformation. Everything else I wrote is my experience. Google will verify the linear compressor issues.

My bad...

Not according to this site...

LG

LG is a multinational appliance manufacturing conglomerate that began as the Rak-Hui (pronounced “Lucky”) Chemical Industrial Corporation in 1947
Oops question answered as I was posting. Some might still find it interesting though.
