68°F and .06 inches rain.

Sophie seems to be doing well after yesterday’s ordeal. Visit to eye Dr this morning to remove patch and first look. Not her surgeon but has examined her before. Surgeon visit is tomorrow.

Apparently missed a great wx day for mowing yesterday. Today looks promising so I hope I can salvage the afternoon to run Sophie’s BX with mid-mount mower over some thickish growth.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

85F, cloudy, with rumbles of thunder and a bit of light rain @ 13:30, calling for a high of 86F for the day. DP 72F, HU 64%, "feels like" temp = 96F.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued. Hopefully we'll get some decent rain.

Got hopper and the two tube feeders refilled yesterday first thing, also stuck another cake in the suet feeder.

Then finished all the mowing down here around the house.

After that I went back to screening more compost. Second screened pile getting to be good sized, a more than than what would probably fit in a full-sized pick up bed.

Was pretty hot while I was doing that so took a break in the shop to cool down and let some more clouds roll in for the shade.

While I was doing that I got a little more done on the NLA softener bracket. Pieces cut out, marked hole positions with transfer punches.

Woman broiled up a couple of brats and sautéed up some squash, peppers, and onions with a hot sausage for dinner. Was very tasty ... (y)

Headed back up and did some more compost screening until it got dark.

Then headed into the shop and got the new softener bracket welded up:

IMG_3377 copy.jpg

Also marked the holes with the sizes they need to be drilled out at.

Probably spend some time up there today getting them drilled since it's pretty miserable outside.

Beyond that, just see what else comes up.

Looking forward to the big cool down in the coming days.

Hope everyone is having a decent Tuesday ... (y)

Glad to see GM got moved back.... I missed a few days, and if GM gets moved again, will not be back. I try to avoid the front porch. It's also not visible to visitors, so new people coming in won't see it. FB wasn't a popular alternative, and I don't really like it either. I did download a bulletin board software that if i feel like it, will try to create an independent GM bulletin board to see how it works. Not too keen on doing it though.

Found problem with water softener, leak in the resin tank is shooting water into the brine tank. Course I found it after just replacing the gaskets again.
Will probably just replace the system. Any recommendations for a good water softener? Current one is Kenmore, salt based.
I see sears no longer owns the kenmore brand.

edit: just went ahead and ordered whirlpool one from Lowes, pick it up friday. don't trust amazon to ship one.

Good Afternoon,
right now very happy 5 percent CDs still available at local bank
Drew, yep I jumped on that a couple of months back, tied it up for a couple of years !
Overall, the City is a mess. Sad to see it, still nice areas of course,
Ken, I was there a few years ago with Kathleen. We had a good time but the homeless all over really took away from the place ! Down by the wharf the homeless would pee on the wooden benches where they we’re sleeping, it just reeked ! That was a big turnoff ! But we had fun anyway ! 😉

been working on a new stop for rv trip. Lexington KY is where my oldest brother's granddaughter lives and since I'm going right by on
route 64, trying to arrange a spot to stop and have lunch with her. She really doesn't know me, kind of an alien who is a relative showing up...but
she is nice to meet me. Her sister lives in Boulder Colorado, and I may be adding another day onto trip to go North from Salida for one night to see her before heading to Texas.

had one good downpour earlier but cleared up and waiting for main event later tonight. Several inches of rain predicted and I don't think this is the storm coming up the coast, this is the train in the station before that. Severe thunderstorm watch remains, lightly raining now, no wind yet

taking some cherry tomatoes to my ancient MIL tomorrow at nursing home, plus returning the amaryllis I gave her last Fall.
I took it home, put it to bed in basement, in a couple months it woke up again and is happily growing again.
I won't see her til I get back and at her age, every visit is a bit of hope I see you again.

but first I go to George School in Newtown and there the head of the book store is coming in just for me to unlock the book store
so I can buy a George School blanket for my sister as a house present. She and her husband met at this local Quaker school in
10th grade and have been together ever since. Unfortunately they both went to grad school in CA and loved it, and why there are there now.

and lastly I go check on a friend's home in Doylestown who is out of country. She will do the same for me when I'm on the road.
not like anything outside needs watering but she has hanging plants on porch under an eave that I doubt get much rain.

was strange earlier, rain coming straight down, and sun shining. I looked for a rainbow but nothing.

Installed the gearbox on the mower as well as the spindle under it today. Not having a second person to hold the spindle up under the deck makes it interesting and a few tricks had to be found.

Wish I had the modification that Ron made to the deck to stretch the spring for the belt tensioner to put the belt back on the pulleys.

Drew those rental prices are up around 10 K per month and the area we were in are likely even higher. Hard to believe

Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of 5.4C and it's presently 14.0C, partly cloudy & somewhat calm. There was 4.3mm in the gauge @ 0900 due to yesterday afternoon & evening brief showers that the Weatherguessers had managed to 'CYA' with a 20% 'prediction'.

Received text messages from the "Mad Agisting Horse Woman" that there is an old & sickly possum nesting amongst her lucerne. I've seen it around the property, at non-nocturnal times, for a few days. Anyway, she'll need to arrange for it to be trapped and then we'll figure out how to humanely dispatch it.

In the meantime, it's 'into town' day for groceries.

That's about it, take care all.

69F, mostly cloudy and wet @ 20:45, heading down to around 64F for the low overnight.

Severe thunderstorms with tornados earlier, mostly up north but the winds really blew here and we did get some rain.

Finished up drilling all the holes and tapped the two #4-40 holes in the bracket, just have one little slot left to cut:

IMG_3381 copy.jpg

Original, in new condition:

Screen Shot 2024-08-06 at 20.47.26.png

Didn't drill a couple of the smallest holes as I don't think are actually used ... but I did mark them with a punch in case they are and I have to drill them later.

Was worried I'd break the #4-40 tap off since it's so tiny but was able to thread the holes with no issues.

Only real miscue was missing one of the transfer marks and drilling a hole in the incorrect place. Just went ahead and drilled it in the correct place, having an extra hole next to it shouldn't be an issue.

Woman turned the stuffed peppers into stuffed pepper soup and added some hot sausage to it, was very good.

Heading back up now to cut that slot and clean off the backing plate.

Once that's done I can start putting it all back together.

Hope everyone had a decent Tuesday ... (y)

good morning all
71 out now only going up to 74 today in clouds, more rain this afternoon.
1.67 on rain gauge for yesterday

nice job on the bracket RS. Maybe you can coat it with something that won't corrode in that environment?

another Aussie word to look up
Lucerne is a nice city in Switzerland and a Buick I used to own.
But this lucerne is another name for alfalfa.

busy morning today, three stops and then home.
need to start getting serious about cleaning house for guests this weekend.
no excuses since it will be raining

hope you all have a nice day

after I noticed I/we had disappeared off the "reaction" board, which we all call likes,
now it's been redone.
Good Morning rocks!

Morning all!
Currently 58 and raining going to 74.
Quick update on the apartment redo that I will be going back to this morning. Will try and grab some pics of the new flooring and paint.
The bathroom lighting was as old as the house. Was covered in rust and all the paint was gone! No replacements could be found and I didn't want to even think of trying to replace the whole fixtures! Spent a few days with sand paper and wire brushes an now:

IMG_8998.jpg

Wish I would have remembered to get before pics!
Hopefully can get them reinstalled without any damage. Need to install the new over sink light too. She wants me to install a new shower head today also so I guess today will be bathroom day.
That's all for now.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!
