Parking in Philly is tight, you need to back in, and even then most spots are not long enough for my pickup.
With my van or pickup trucks, it's always been easy, since they have the little fisheye mirror in the corner of each side mirror. I can easily see the right rear tire when backing into a parallel parking slot. But with a sedan that lacks those fisheye mirrors, angling the right power mirror down is a life-saver.
We also had to do this to pass our driver's test, 35 years ago. But you just had to be within a foot of the curb, IIRC. On tight old cobblestone streets in Philly, being a foot from the curb means you'll be missing some driver's-side components from your car when you return, as they've been swiped off by a passing bus or truck.
