My brother did a 435mile EV trip(one way) last weekend with his family to visit mine.

Drives a ev6 I think it was. I took it for a short drive and it seemed like a fine car.

I asked him about charging and he took two 10 minute charging stops along the way. He was surprised the chargers worked with no problems. 99% of the time they charge at home but he did mention on other trips they’ve stopped at non functioning chargers which was annoying. Also said he had to have 3 different apps in the phone to know about all the different chargers out there which is also annoying.

Once he was at my place there was a giant grocery store with free charging but it took three 2hour charging sessions to get it back to full for drive home. Thankfully it was only .6 of a mile away so he just dropped it off and biked back. Could have been a big inconvenience if it was farther way but it was also free so I guess it’s a wash.

He really likes the car especially when charging at home.

Got to laugh at some of Tesla application names, two apps with new software releases.

ASS - Actually Smart Summons,

Dumb Summons- which you use the linked phone for to guide the vehicle

So finally summons is back, should be fun to try at a mall for those that have/paid FSD subscription.

No free dumb summons for us non FSD subscribers.

5 cents doesn’t sound right for the cost of electricity. Are you taking your total electric bill and dividing it by your total kwh?
That gives you your actual cost per kWh.
My guess is you’re only stating the off peak energy price, which is misleading.

In NH I’m paying just over 24 cents a KWh. The energy portion is about 50% of that.

Yes, 5c per kwh is off peak as I stated in my original comment. Between 11pm and 7am that is the price, so we just programed the car to charge between those hours.

Any recurrent monthly fees associated with having our electric account are the same as before we had the tesla.

Summons is one thing in FSD I might be interested in. But is that available in the Y? Saw something suggesting it was only in S and X.

“Emissions Testing” is my favorite.

So which appliance do you consider the owner of those typical extra monthly charges ? To be comparing accurately you have to take your total monthly costs and your kw used and use that as your average costs per kwh , and applies for any of your appliance or charging needs ....any other way is deceitful.( of course a percentage off for any appliance consistently used off peak but my napkin math won't express that easily. )

As turbos become a requirement in gas cars their upfront and maintenance costs can be a drain on ICE passenger vehicles profits.

By the way, this is a very good tutorial on turbocharged gas vehicles plus and minuses.

Ok, I know you stated just the off peak energy cost, but it still seems very unusual to have a power company that allows a cheap off peak rate without any associated charges.

For example, this company in Colorado, with 5 cents off peak pricing for time of use consumers.. while having no kWh incurred transmission charges, does have many % add on “adjustments”, which would be added on in your total bill, and you’d need to account for them to get a more accurate cost of night charging. Check the back of your bill.

What difference does it make - right now. I could be GIVEN an EV pickup and it would just sit in my yard. It can not do what I need done - there are NO local charging facilities - there are no local dealerships - no local service facilities.

At this particular time - it's a moot point.
The nearest Tesla Supercharger is 35 miles away in Sprague WA. But if you owned a Cybertruck, for example, you would probably also use home charging so you could daily drive 250 miles around home, every day, doing the work you have to do with a pickup truck. Towing heavy would be a LOT less, like maybe 100+ miles per charge, but the Chevy Silverado EV has a huge battery and could tow much farther if that was your thing. Anywhere you'd drive a car around town you'd rather drive an EV pickup because instead of 12-16 MPG diesel locally, you'd spend a small fraction of that on electricity with home charging. So maybe an EV pickup truck could be your only vehicle for "beater around town" and pickup truck stuff.
I have a Duramax diesel (since 2003) and I've owned EV cars since 2015. I haven't bought an EV truck yet, maybe never. I encourage you to try to be openminded and check out an EV if you ever get the chance. And I respect if you just say you have zero interest.

How do you figure the turbo is a drain on people??? And what increase in maintenance costs???

I'm just curious, because our last two cars have had turbos, and we haven't had increased maintenence expenses.

And most ice vehicles have a 7500 mile recommended interval between services. So you can't really claim shortened oil life.

Turbos have been around for a seriously long time. And other than my 25hp diesels at work, everything else has a turbo on it.

If you convert mileage from hours on the equipment, I'm getting probably 600,000 miles out of a turbo before having to replace it. That's based at 60mph for 10,000 hrs. And the 600,000 miles is probably a low estimate since I have some engines with 14,000 hrs or more on them and haven't had a turbo replacement yet.
