Good morning!!!!

I grew up with trucks and learned early on to drive them. Dad had a cabover chevy at one time with two speed rear end that I loved to drive when allowed. Then the truck I liked the most was a Mercedes diesel 5 ton truck. 4 speeds plus a crawler gear. Neat exhaust sound that really had a tone to it. Rebuilt it for my dad later on when apprenticing as a mechanic

Good Morning!!!! 80F @ 7:45AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. Hot. High 101F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.
Low 80s to mid 90s by mid week, can't get here soon enough.

I still remember a docent led tour of part of the Custer battlefield, Drew, not just because it was very interesting, but because I was freezing my butt off in mid July. It would make an interesting day for you if it's close by.

By going to a thicker bolt, Kyle, is there any worry that they won't shear soon enough and damage the mower? Or is the in line clutch going to take care of that? If so, why are there shear bolts to start with?

I did get the battery swapped up at the gate yesterday, finding a fox or coyote turd laid down across one of the terminals. It went to dust when I moved it with my pocket knife. The display on the gate charger looked like it was charging with about an amp of current, so hopefully the problem was the old 2016 battery. But it's on the Battery Saver and seems to be taking a charge, so only time will tell.

The new house came with a Swiffer, which I brought up here for a try out. Found a video online to see how to use it, and it did a fairly decent job, even on some black heel marks. It's no vacuum cleaner, though, so that'll be the first step from now on.

Also took apart the deep well controller and found that what looks like some kind of variable resistor came apart on the board. It sets the idle time between pump starts when the pump cavitates in an empty drill pipe, which happens toward the end of summer before the winter rains start. Not an easy repair, so I ordered an eight hundred dollar replacement which should get here tomorrow. Still way cheaper than calling out the well guy again.

Gonna get started on painting the gate up at he cul-de-sac by washing it off with water. With today's temperatures, it's sure to be dry by tomorrow. Got some wiring to tidy up in the pump house, then inside jobs the rest of the day.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...

Good breakfast with the gang. Stopped at 3 orchards on the other side of the mountain, 2 we had never been to before, and bought 2 pecks of peaches, and half bushel of ginger gold apples. Wife likes them for apple sauce. peaches are Victoria and one we didn't get name of. Got free peach slushie at the one stand, as first time customer. The other stand let us try a peach before buying. Will need to call and get name of the peach. also bought corn.
Rain this morning, wasn't sure it would come east far enough to hit the house, but got home and now at .18", and neighbor is mowing his yard in the rain.

58F @ 12:30, has been cloudy but Sun is peeking out now. Low this morning was 52.3F. Clearing this afternoon with a slight chance of a shower. Calling for a high of 62F for the day.

High here yesterday was 83.3F but I was gone most of the day.

Fresh coffee made and tasting good ... (y)

Got the back mowed day before yesterday then worked on doing a little clean out of the van for Friday's trip.

Topped off the oil and the coolant.

Scattered some more seeds for the ground feeders.

Both glyphosate sprayers refilled and ready to go.

At some point over the past week I hauled down 5 or so bucketloads of wood chips and got some mulching done on the new hosta planting area.

Headed out around 09:00 Friday for Marietta to pick up the hit-n-miss engine. Got down there a little before 11:30.

Engine loaded and secured and headed back north.

The guy had a bunch of hit-n-miss engines ... including several very large ones (40 HP ?)

Stopped at Bob Evans on the way back, had the Big Egg Breakfast with links and hash browns. Was pretty good.

Got back up here and started to unload just about the time the skies opened up.

Got the engine off and then loaded a large square plastic tub (50G ?) that was full of scrap boards that I'll use for starting fires in the double barrel stove this winter.

Might use the tub for an electrolytic de-rusting set up.

Swung by Panera after I got unloaded and picked up some corn chowder for the sick one and then headed home.

Kicked back on the couch and recovered for the rest of the evening and hit the rack early.

Rain continued off and on through the night. LWS reports a total of 0.72" ... (y)

On the agenda for today:

Refill bird feeders.

Maybe get east side mowed.

Unload that plastic tub out of the van, probably stick it over in the barn for now.

Move all that pipe over there as well, while I have the pallet forks on.

Swap out the forks for the shrub bucket after that.

Probably going to see about digging out some more plants (hosta, day lilies, and maybe the hydrangeas) out on the north side of the garage, since the ground has gotten some water.

Maybe spray strawberries and various hosta plantings with stink juice once the chance of rain has passed.

Re-bait the live trap.

See what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ... (y)

safe and sound at Horse Thief campground in Hill City SD, not too far away from Mt Rushmore.
I took a ton of pics today, need to go through them, get some off my good camera, like the zoom on the presidents' heads. I need a nap first.

this campsite is awesome, what a view every which way.
time for a nap and then a long hot shower. They have a bathhouse not far away, I bet it's nicer than the last one I tried. Most of them skeeve me.
I got going the wrong way today and did too much mountain driving.
but alls well that ends well and this has ended nicely indeed.

I can't wait to zoom in on Washington's nose...

well I kept at it.
current height is 5500 feet. I believe the hill behind my rv in first pic
is St Elmo's peak, 6500 feet. The heads at Mt Rushmore are at 5700, but it would have been quite a walk. That's why we have zoom lens.
