Retirement puzzle

...and I mean puzzle in a literal sense. When I retired in 2016, my eldest son thought I would have too much time on my hands so he got me a puzzle as a retirement gift. As a family we spent about 4 years putting it together. The next 4 years was spent finishing out a room in the basement with a wall big enough to mount the puzzle on.

Final result is 32,256 pieces (ok, actually 32,255 since 1 piece went missing), about 17' wide by 6.5' tall.

Haven’t figured out the free time aspect of retirement in 16 years. Might have to get a job again to get some vacation time.

We are planning to retire in a few years and our plan is to sell everything here and relocate to somewhere along the gulf. If there is one thing I enjoy as much as hunting, it's saltwater fishing. I will happily trade the upkeep of all our property for a average lot on a saltwater canal that leads out to the gulf. Have a boat docked behind the house so that I can jump on it and head out fishing anytime I want, or even just fish off of my own dock. That's a slice of heaven for me! Our twins will be grown by then and will hopefully follow us there and start their families so we'll all be close to one another.

We keep our boat trailered at the house but it's only about a mile to launch at the lake. Spend 4-5 days a week on the water. Retirement is a tough job but somebody has to do it.

Can be tough for sure if no domestic harmony.

More than a few marriages I know did not survive retirement… guess too much time together or different ideas on how to spend that time.

A few transitioned to hobbies and it had worked well for them and a detached shop has save many marriages!

Was the puzzle a solo endeavor?

Except for mine...She thinks when I am in my detached shop that she wants to be out there WITH ME hanging out. She even bought me a dart board last Christmas and was like, "now we can play darts when we're hanging in your shop!"
