I think another factor is that these days many, many people see themselves as 'activists' and that they are doing some great public service to sway the world to whatever they view as the 'greater good'. Based on the public interaction I've observed with people on one side of the political spectrum and (in far greater visibility) on social media observations: values, character and integrity has been superseded by activism. One can no longer make a reliable assumption that a "scientist" is objective nor follows scientific methods rigorously.
Well, that, exactly. When the problem becomes so threatening that exaggeration is accepted in order to "wake up" the public, youre no longer a scientist but an activist.

That same statement works when the word "becomes" is replaced with "is perceived as". The forces working to change perception (regardless of validity) are the ones pushing out reliable science in favor of activist 'science'.

You know i meant "becomes (in the mind of the propagator)" or "is perceived as".

And i'm not sure if i get what you mean by that second statement.. Are you saying, people who are changeing perception (which is subjective) are pushing out reliable science (which is objective by definition) ?

It's hard to tell subtle context in print.

By the second statement I mean that the vigorous push for a topic (say climate topics or covid mitigations) drives the perceptions of those who see themselves as supporting activists which then drives them to skew true science in favor of their chosen solution. So, yes, those pushing the perceptions are pushing out reliable scientific methods. When it becomes more important to get a result with your heart and not your head then that's not true science.

So when someone says "follow the money" and then others come up with reasons way those scientists aren't actually getting blatantly paid off, it's still the money, just at a different part of the ecosystem. The money driving those who set the perceptions...

...or to someone tho whom English is a 2nd language...

Sorry... not sure what you mean. Only a hunch.

Theres some truth to that. Though i have some reservations to whoever uses that phrase as a default remark to anything he/she doesnt fully comprehend. In foregone times they had the boogeyman to blame. Nowadays its big anything. Big government, big pharma, big capital, WEF, Bill Gates, and more. I just get fed up with those loud voices who see an archetypical nemesis in every event: dont look outside yourself, look at your own internal psychological mechanisms to explain why you get played after you got so riled up...

I can relate to that, Renze, missing many nuances and especially references to the American past.

I have friends that moved to California from Brazil. Both have good English. Some things throw them though, like there, their, they're. Or bow, on a boat, to use with an arrow, or with a knot, or used to play a violin.bass,cello. Speaking of bass, are you going to play a bass, or go fishing for bass. Then base and base... And that is just a few examples in English.

Not to mention thingamajigs an dohickies :D

You really can't blame the English for that stupidity. Female derives from Latin, and Tamale is a Spanish word... Spanish also having derived from Latin.

Blame the Spanish... not the English!
