You Know You Are Old When

Man that brings back some 60 year old memories.

We would spend more time trying to identify the fastest players, and the ones that would run to the left or right, than actually playing the game!

You could adjust them somewhat with the plastic nubs, but it wasn't terribly reliable...

Pretty sure we still have the game...somewhere!
I definitely forgot about the adjustments. I didn't have the game myself, but my best friend and his brother did, so we played it often.

I was asking recently by a 32 yo what a Dime Store was. Old.
I remember the Ben Franklin stores we called the 5 and dime.

Also FW Woolworth among others. It won't be too long before Sears Roebuck joins that list.
The name will make a comeback, just as Montgomery Ward has done.

That's exactly what my grandfather called our "5 & 10" shop, in Surf City, NJ. Grandma took it even one step farther, calling it "the nickel and dime store".

Nothing there was a nickel or a dime, by the time they were taking me there in the 1970's and 80's.

There used to be a Kresge's five and dime in St Catharines.
I loved it as a kid.
My mother would buy me a treat at the lunch counter, usually something ice cream, so she could have some peace while shopping.
Once I finished my treat I'd take off for the toy department. No worries. I was there.
If I had been careful with my pocket money I'd have a shiny new something.
I wish I could do it one more time.

Everyone of my age here remembers the donut machine at Kresge's.

Here in the east, it was J.J. Newberry. The flagship store was located across the street from the office where I worked in Stroudsburg, PA. The chain was purchased in 1972 by McCrory's, who took it nationwide.

The Last McCrory store closed in 2002.

Lot's of regionals. We had Hess's, which are now all Bon-Ton's. I had always assumed Woolworth's was also regional, until I'd seen far-flung members here mention it.
