I have the small (~18") suicide doors on my standard cab '06 F150. Gives good access to the space behind the seats.
I had those on my 04 f150. They were decent. And I liked the extra space behind the seat.

The con, was the fact that I'm tall, the section where the two doors met, blocked my view.

I don't understand why the extended cab wouldn't be more popular, for me it was a perfect compromise (is that an oxymoron?) - extra seat/cab space, full 8 foot bed in a relatively manageable size package (compared to a crew cab/long bed). The rear seat isn't cavernous, but it is usable. I rode back there from Missouri to New Jersey and back and was completely comfortable (granted, I'm only 5'-8", but still...).

Couldn't agree with you more about the Tacoma. What IS is with these car company designers? They got the damn design RIGHT the first time, then, over time, they seem to think they need to "update" it. Did the same thing with the Yaris - started out perfect, they they kept screwing with it until it was so ugly, they couldn't sell any of them.

I my opinion, Ford did the same thing with the Mustang - they got the original "retro" design right then kept messing with it. Interior too....

That statement will probably start a fight, but that's what I think.
My last truck was an extended cab with suicide doors.

My issue was as the grandkids got bigger they didn't fit in the back seat.

So this round we got a crew cab. I can fit a rear facing car seat back there without much issue, plus fit the 15yo grandson and the 6'5, 17yo grandson back there

Not just the length, but on the pre-2005 Super Duty like mine, they had leaf springs on the front which limited the amount of turning travel, so the turning circle is enormous. My shop addition is 48 feet wide and I park in the far right side, backed in. Can barely make the U-turn into the drive that runs along the side of the building...

Pretty much every modern crew cab truck I've driven has the turning radius of a school bus.

The old Fords with leaf springs on the front are by far the worst turning pickups on the road. The dead end road I live on has a 72ft circle at the end and my 4 door long bed leaf spring ford needs all of it to make the turn. My Dads F-550 with coil springs turns way sharper. And it’s a longer truck than the F-350. My Volvo semi turns way sharper. The Volvo truck will drive into the trailer if you don’t straighten out. The Volvo truck has bigger tires and leaf springs. There’s no reason for it badly beat the F350s turning radius.

On the other hand, a GM 4WD ('73 through '91) with leaf springs turned sharper than a 2WD.

I don’t think GM used leaf springs on the front of any pickup since 1988. Ford used the leaf springs until 2005.

My newer Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 on 140" wheelbase actually does better than most of my prior 4x4 trucks, on turning radius. It's no Fiat 500, but it really isn't terrible.

My wife had to drive the truck for three weeks while her car was in the body shop.

She figured out real fast why I'll pull through park when I can or back into a parking spot.

She also realized why I try to avoid drive through as well.... or so she thought

The trucks a little tricky going through a tight drive through, but that's not why I avoid them.

I don't go through a drive through out of habit.

I drive a F550 service truck with crane for work. I have clearance issues. When I'm grabbing lunch, I'll have to park out of the way somewhere and walk in.

After 20 years on the road, it's become a habit, that I don't even think about.

They did. The R and V series, formerly C and K, used the '73 up body, leaf srpings, etc. through '91 on V series Blazers, Suburbans, and crew cab pickups.
