I had looked into getting an EV for short commutes. When a few fires became news, I thought, of just the same for ICE vehicles. Then the frequency of EV thermo fire events kept climbing in local news and a few national. Got me 2nd thinking when State Farm back in 2021 stated owning an EV stored in an attached garage would double your home owners rate. And Gm saying to keep the Volt a distance to any building structure followed by a few other automakers saying similar things.

I bet ya EV sales slow down dramatically in Florida and Carolina's.....millions without power still. Meanwhile stored gasoline and tanker trucks coming to rescue keep many ICE vehicles running.
If I charge every day at home before such an event then if caught unawares I still have 250 miles or so of range in my EV. So what is your issue?

On a similar vein....if a EV sits in flooded salt water 2 ft deep, is it a write off ???
Same as an ICE sitting in 2' of salt water. Chassis will forever be compromised.

From my experience in Florida. They are gonna be without gas or diesel for a while.

Fuel comes into the state from the port. Then gets distributed throughout the state.

Port gets shut down during storms like this, so no fuel shipments.

Then as a station does get fuel, they will be sold out within hours because everyone and their brother is trying to get gas.

It usually takes a few weeks after one of these events before demand and supply equalize out.

I'm betting they will make an announcement, if they haven't done so already, allowing emergency vehicles and support companies to use off road diesel so they can continue to provide response until highway diesel becomes available again.
So it is likely to get electricity restored before gasoline and diesel supply is restored?

Bolt. The Chevrolet Bolt was the fire hazard.

Not a Tesla, the above fire is an F-150 Lightning.

Ford and GM thought they could quickly and easily build EVs by purchasing components from the lowest cost bidder. Both got "burned" by their battery suppliers.

Simple....if a person is at home for 2 or 3 weeks without power.....ICE is the better solution and that is why emergency vehicles will be ICE too.......and a compromised chassis can be dealt with, but electrical connections and low position of EV battery is too risky and costly so permanent killed EV car.

We will have to agree to disagree on ICE in salt water......sure it won't be as good , and depending on rust proofing done on it, it will be fine for many years.
Why do you assume an ICE can be rust proofed better than an EV? That an EV can't protect all of it's electrical connections?

Early Teslas have been found to have a corrosion problem at the rear of the battery assembly. The fire pictures circulating have been of Model X, with the early battery.

Any pictures of a 3 or Y burning?

Selling from Tanker trucks and generator serviced gas stations is occuring. Same in North Carolina.

I downloaded the latest FSD version today and was impressed and think by 2030 it may be be ready for prime time.

For the past year it has been meeting my requirements. Last month it did fine on my 7 day 2500 mile cross country road trip .
I got 2 software updates in the past week.

The first still brakes when it sees a semi coming around a corner at night. The second was installed last night.

I meant the press release… I see TSLA is down 9% today, so I’m guessing some disappointment
That is not always the way things work. Often a stock gets pumped by those imagining far more than anything promised. Then reality hits.

AAPL almost always drops after earnings announcements, even when exceeding market predictions and guidance.

Absolutely. You can park in a tight spot and still get in out with a partial conventional door opening. Gull wing is limited to full area requirement
Really? You are so 1960's Mercedes-Benz Gull Wing. Or 1974 Bricklin. Go find someone with a Tesla Model X and ask for a demonstration of the rear passenger doors. Can get in/out easier in a tight space because the door is overhead and not between you and the car beside.
