What Attachment Scares You The Most?

It was about forty five years ago. Last few years we lived in Alaska. Driving home - off to the left - a large tracked Nodwell was auguring a test hole in an open field. I stopped to watch.

All of a sudden the engine on the Nodwell lugged down and then the governor took over and it resumed its normal speed. Just about that time a very loud - CRACK. The gigantic U-joint between the augur and the vertical PTO had broken.

A large hole - size of a dinner plate - mysteriously appeared in the rear door of a Cadillac. It was parked on the other side of the work site.

It was past time for me to be heading on home. I'll bet I wasn't the only one on that site that came real close to having a urinary incident.

I guess that just goes to show that when your time is up, it's up. And your's, thankfully, wasn't....

If I can consider myself an attachment, then that would be the scariest. By far, the operator is the biggest culprit. As I age, I am getting better at working slower/patiently and stepping away when angry. Also, fatigue will get you. You have to get off the machine sometimes and just do manual labor or quit.

If I had a sickle bar, THAT would be my scariest attachment, no question about it (but I still want one).
There not scary at all, just keep your fingers away when raising implement, easy.

Agree. While yesterday's festivities were far from the dumbest I done with tractors, getting a 25' section of 3x6 rectangular tubing welded in place presented plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong.

Partially because the tractor wouldn't quite lift high enough (once again I forgot to move the pins in the loader for a higher reach), and also because the hydraulics on the little L3800 slowly leaks down.

Needed to have the welder raised enough for the leads to reach some 12' up and had to work somewhat quickly so the welder wouldn't topple off the palletforks. It all worked out, but I definitely had my doubts.

I've noticed - sometimes "necessity" is not necessarily the most intelligent option. It can surely get you in trouble though.

Agree. But always working alone can make even simple tasks both time consuming and sketchy.

Just having somebody hold a finger on that beam to keep one end in place, as opposed to clamps coming loose (since the loader wouldn't lift quite high enough to keep the 3x6 lined up vertically) made a basic 2-hour job take closer to six.

Heck, I've been meaning to make long pieces of tubing with a cup of sorts at one end so I could swing the backhoe on the Unimog by being able to move the backhoe lever(s) as needed while driving it...to keep from it ending up on its side.

It's just part of life for me. And oddly enough hasn't lead to injury or death, yet.
