Looking for recommendations for household frig

I'm looking too~

We have an obsolete Frigidaire refrig ONLY/ It has a very small ice box in the lower corner. With a freezer downstairs, this unit has served us well. Lately it's been "over cooling". I have the temp control set just above "off" and it still freezes the crisper drawers (Maybe a new temp controller is needed)

Looking for a replacement of the same config.

Whoa! Fridge only units START at $1000 and go to ten times that.

Maybe it's just everyone I know that bought LG were the unlucky ones with bad compressors?

I counted 5 including me at a property I managed.

Nothing like this have I experienced and each person liked their refrigerator until they were faced with replacing the compressor.

This scares me. I really like my LG refrigerator. That big, single top door is massive, and the amount of room inside it still amazes me. I sure hope the compressor issue was fixed before they made mine, or maybe it's just a CA thing? I've heard they do weird things to stuff in order to sell it there

FWIW: The issue seems to start pre-2020;

As far as I can tell, LG made an evaporator from tubing that was prone to corrosion and that as a result debris moved through the system and air was ingested, resulting in high system pressures burning out the compressors.

With the huge numbers of refrigerators manufactured each year, many of them with the same parts under different brands, and the natural tendency of folks with problems to report their issues, I think it is hard to know if and when a problem has been solved, much less to which brand it applies. I believe LG made some Kenmore refrigerators.

If it were me, I would buy what you like and get an extended warranty. I don't see that forking over $8-14k for a Miele pencils out on a dollar/year of expected lifetime.

Wrap up -
On the way home from Mississippi we stopped at our son's in Bracey, Va. He had a "4 door" frig that looked good, WIFE said "I LIKE that". Got home, she had changed her mind.
BUT the frig at home just needed the Condenser Fan Motor replaced and after looking at various online alternatives I went with a local supply from Trible's for ~$100. Install was a minor pain, I've large hands that don't fit in the back electrical area of the frig.
So it's running fine now, thanks for all the input.
