Over the years we have owned many Cherokees, several Wranglers a few CJ's and they were all competent highway vehicles. The CJ's the touchiest but when driven with the knowledge of their characterize competent on the road..

I drove my CJ 3A as a daily in and around Los Angeles for years, and on a Virginia to California trip.

Of course, the latter was more like driving an EV. Only short distances covered each day, and slowly.

On the other hand, I got it up about 90 mph once (no windshield helped a lot), all with a spring-over conversion, maximized articulation, and an 80-inch wheelbase.

Yes, I rolled it over several times, but never when driving on roads.

I actually drove a Wrangler on the highway everyday when I was too poor to afford a second vehicle. A great highway experience, they are not! Especially back then, dealing with soft windows at toll booths, my frustration brought me close to just knifing one open on a few occasions.

I'll take a sedan, ten times out of ten, over any Jeep product on the highway. Hell, my pickup truck rides like a limousine, compared to any Wrangler at 70-80 mph.

I agree that a Wrangler isn't the best riding vehicle in the world, but not fair to tar all Jeeps with the same brush. Had a couple Grand Cherokees and they rode/handled just fine. Then again, I have a neighbor who shares your views. Dunno...different driving technique?

I agree about a sedan for comfortable driving. My wife drives a sedan and won't ride in either of my pickups, so we take it when driving any distance. No way I would drive a short wheelbase like a Wrangler at 80 mph on a regular basis.

My driveway is 12' and in places 14'. Plenty of room. Wife drives over both sides by the same amount. UPS, FedEx, no problem. Wife, problem.

After decades of stay off the lawn, I finally have given up and advise others the same. We will never win.

My wife drove our driveway about the same, she said I stay in the middle. Trouble is the driver seat in a car is not in the middle.
When I explained and showed her by driving in the middle, she understood.
She said, "now I know why you always told me I was driving on the fog line on a highway.
That all happened perhaps 40 years ago, just after we married.

As a kid I remember Grandad had a small piece of white tape in lower left of his windshield which I asked what it was for. Tape lined up perfectly with edge of the road.
