Growing up the neighborhood was a sea of American Flags and the Catholic School I attended had mandatory school mass every Dec 7 where the priest spoke about Peal Harbor... he carried shrapnel from December 7th.

Only my flag is out today as the greatest generation has all but passed.

My high school always observed a moment of silence in honor of Pearl Harbor. Now, December 7th is just another day on the school calendar.

All should be aware that there are enemies out there who could perpetuate a repeat attack. We need to be forever vigilant.

Thanks for posting. I just did a search on the number of survivors. 16 per CNN. As the "greatest" pass on, let us hope that they are never forgotten. 🙏

Growing up there was a Chrysler K car with Pearl Harbor Survivor plates in the neighborhood; I never met the fellow, I was rather young, but I was always in awe of having someone who was living history in our little area.

I hope he lived a long life.

Pearl Harbor Day.

When I was a kid in grade school, a scholastic book truck came to school and I bought a book about WWII, read it, and discussed it with my father, who was drafted into that war. Ever since then I've always taken the time to think about it on December 7.

Thanks for posting. (y)

It took several decades for the horror of December 7th to fade. Unfortunately, the holocaust of September 11th, which killed more than Pearl harbor, is fading at a more rapid rate.

I'm afraid the younger generations are more concerned about the present than the past or future.

If we don't remember these tragedies and cherish our freedom, it will go away.

We visited Pearl Harbor a few years ago and went to both the Arizona and the Missouri. I’m sure it was well thought out to dock the Missouri near the Arizona. The symbolic start of the war is the Arizona and the surrender was signed on the deck of the Missouri.

Is there still oil bubbling up from the Arizona?
