With the Ukraine and now Lebanon
I commented to my wife at supper tonight,

"I'm glad our kids are beyond draft age".

I don't feel any American should die for either of those causes.

Received a text from my wife yesterday, apparently our son is being awarded something for his work ethic today.

I know he's been working long hours (I joked with him he's on salary now) and is one of the first to arrive and the last to leave (apparently they trust him enough to give him building keys).

He was home for Thanksgiving and was pretty proud of the fact that he qualified and did well with the new M17 sidearm (he qualified with the M9 earlier this year), and apparently now he's been assigned one with a serial number that is "his" (certain job duties he's required to carry one).

He was never a kid really into guns growing up, so it's nice to see he can adapt and learn, but the few times I had him out, he didn't do to bad, and wasn't afraid to handle one.

Better yet, he finally seems to be embracing physical training and told me he's now hitting the gym and working out. He's always been skinny as a rail (even after basic) and he made the "working out" comment after I told him he looks like he's putting on "good weight" in his class A's (he's also still proud of that buscap he bought like his grandfathers and not wearing the airman's cap that is apparently standard issue with his class A's LMAO)

It does put a smile on my face because I told him before he enlisted, that from what I saw of his work ethic since he started working at at the age of 15, as long as he kept that same work ethic, he will do fine in the life he wants to make for himself.

He definitely has a game plan on where he wants to be when his enlistment is up and it's nice to see that he's setting long term goals, and more importantly, still giving 100% and not just trying to get by.

Every father hopes they can say the same thing about their growing boy someday! Sounds like he is turning out to be a fine man and a great soldier, you have every right to be proud of him. Good job!

Yes, very proud of him. See below on the texts I sent him this morning

The reality is we have no clue what to get him for Christmas.

The added reality is as proud as I am of him, sometimes as a father I over compensate for him because we lost his brother in 2022 and as am proud as I am raising him when he came to us, I feel just as responsible for losing his brother because I was too much of a hard butt as a father...

When you lose a son due to the choices he made on his own, it hurts as a father.

I'm assuming those logged in can see the link below

Why not just give him cash, so he can use it anytime it is needed for anything he might want, or need ?

When he hit his first duty station (not so far away from us, 3 hr drive) we floated him an interest free 3 year car loan because he finally wanted to get rid of his money pit Mercedes (I told him it was a mistake from the beginning spending his hard earned money, but what does dad know LOL).

Rather just buy him something that he wants.

Needless to say, car related, sigh... That said, could be worse things in life your kid is into.

I'd say get him a subscription to some car magazine, but nobody reads magazines anymore. :ROFLMAO:

Nice set of weather tech floor mats. Detail package from a professional detailing company that restores paint.

I had an acid wash and clay bar process done to my 2002 Tundra last week
Cost $350 to do just the outside but man is it nice.
