Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

I followed another one today that was painted green. This one was similar in color as Zip System panels. It was the ugliest thing on the road because of the paint color!!!!

I've never heard, or seen a youtube of anyone painting one. They seem to be all wraps. :)

Could be wrapped. I’ve only seen them driving by and the one I followed this morning.

Tesla made a fundimental mistake with the cyber truck.
They went head to head with the big three. The EPA regs have forced ice powered pickups to be oversized to be legal.
This has vacated the compact pickup niche.
If Tesla went for the compact pickup niche there would be very little cometition, and it would be better suited for a daily driver. With more traditional /practical styling AND less electronic oerkill it would probably sell better to the practical crowd as well as the eco crowd.

ALSO the compact pickup would open up foreign sales, whereas the current size of the cyber truck locks it out of most markets. EG nissan navara/frontier size opens up international markets.
Tesla has missed an opertunity there.

I certainly agree with this. Lots of people found an El Camino or Ranchero useful and the Cyber truck is close to this.

The one I saw yesterday was just at dark, and it had it's lights on. That was a first. I didn't realize they didn't have "headlights" but instead, it looks more like a light bar mounted on the bumper.
Right above the bumper is where all the snow and slush collects up in snow country. Anywhere else would have been a better location!

Good post, redman! And I agree with your argument, that they missed the better opportunity, and grabbing up the under-served smaller pickup market, for several reasons.

But this one point you made really caught my attention, since like everyone, I've been noticing how comically large all pickups have become. I park my 2005 Ram next to my 2015 Ram, and the older one looks tiny. I park my 2015 next to any 2024 model, and it looks tiny. Meanwhile, everyone is complaining about step-in height and bed height... so what gives?

You're saying this is due to manufacturers bending to EPA regulations? How so?

I was next to another one at a red light yesterday on my drive home. This one was flat black. I was tried to see if it was wrapped, or not, but I couldn't tell. What struck me was that this was the first one that looked like it was made out of plywood by some kids.

As for making them smaller to compete over seas. I think Toyota has a $10,000 gasoline powered truck that they are selling everywhere that has pretty much dominated the market. Why would anybody pay more when you can have a Toyota for so little money?

That's a lot of if's. I can't see anyone buying a CT for any reason other than ego/vanity ("Look at me. I can afford this ugly, useless vehicle and you can't...nya nya nya").
Much as I dislike Tesla, that scheme probably makes the most sense...the profit margin on smaller, more affordable vehicles is much slimmer and EVs are still kind of a niche product. The Ford and Chevy E-trucks are much more traditional trucks, and they aren't selling.
I certainly agree with this. Lots of people found an El Camino or Ranchero useful and the Cyber truck is close to this.
Not really. At least those two were based on existing vehicles, and were practical for someone who needed a "sort-of" truck. The CT is none of the above.

First of all, I don't see what's so special about a toyota. Kind of mediocre trucks IMHO.
This $10k truck may be well suited for third world countries, but kind of strippo for what most Americans want. Adapting it for U.S. safety standards would raise the price considerably.
