Regular cab is fleet and old man truck only now.
"Old man truck" sounds perfect!

I do a lot of carpentry and woodworking, I want to be able to carry sheets of plywood without having to make a production out of it. Which I think means a long bed.

I'd value agility more than carrying capacity, I have a lot of tight spots. So I'm looking at mid-size. But a mid-size with a long bed, with width between the wheel wells for a sheet of plywood seems to be a unicorn.

204.5" wheelbase in a 2-door??? How long is the bed going to be?
That's only about 2.5 feet longer than what I have now, although it's a crew cab with a 9' bed.

Since I never use the bed anyway I'd build something to hold taillights, fenders, and toolboxes, plus a spare and an auxiliary tank. And obviously a gooseneck hitch.

Been meaning to build a "bed" like that for the current Ram, but with a 2-door there would also be room for a sleeper of some sort. If my measurements are correct, even a short camper would fit ahead of the trailer ball, but just barely.

Ford still makes a Supercab. It has the smaller back seat and smaller rear doors that are suicide style. They also have a 6.5 foot bed and at one time you could get an 8 foot bed with one and I think you still can. They come in F150’s and Superduty.

I’m pretty sure Ram no longer makes an 8 foot bed in half tons but do in the 2500 line, I’m not sure about Chevy.

If you are willing to travel, you can find a regular cab with an 8 foot bed but as you discovered they are rare.
Ford is the only one making an extended cab (super cab)with an 8 foot bed. It hasn't been available in a half ton with Lariat interior for several years and starting in 2025 is no longer available,in a 3/4 or 1 ton. You have to buy the most basic two models to get one. I got one of the last three F350 Lariat diesels available in western Canada with the smaller back seat and eight foot box. Now I have to learn all about all the electronic crap that comes on them.

There are plenty of regular cab/8ft. bed F150 work trucks out there, even 2024 models. Just go to autotrader and do an advanced search.

It certainly is. 4 ft. between the wheel wells puts it into the category of full size. If a mid size could do that, it would have to be magical, like a unicorn. ;) You can still easily haul a few sheets of plywood with a small or mid size pickup though. Just leave the tailgate up.
