Maybe it was before the National speed limit?

Nevada was famous for wide open stretches without limits and road rallies.
No, it was a couple of years ago.

My fault that it ended up being a somewhat fast drive. Started a bit too late, so the place was closed by the time I got there. Had planned on loading the machine that day, then drive as far back as possible that night.

Instead, spent the night at the yard, then got the paperwork done and the machine loaded in the morning. Now a late start for the return trip, too.

As I recall, for the most part the speed limit on U.S. 50 was 60 mph, so I did about 30% over. On the 150 or so miles of I-70 I did the speed limit (80). For the remaining 300 miles or so it's 2-lane again.

Don't remember what time I got home, but it was definitely well after dinner. And it would've been quite a bit later had I obeyed the speed limits.

Now, if you mean driving my fun car, that's a different story. Then 20% over isn't even close. Beating the GPS's prediction by 30-40% is pretty standard, and it often includes doing 100% over the speed limit. And definitely no Interstates involved.

Insane? If you say so then it must be, right?
Insane - is an opinion, but...
According to the law, driving above the posted limit is illegal.
It's also dangerous, reckless and quite often lethal.

Speed kills
slow down

Oh, now you tell me.

Wish I'd known that when comparing 60-120s (707 vs. 797 hp) with a cop driving the other car...on a road with a 55 mph limit.

Thankfully, around here not even the cops are playing cop. Live and let live.

I was racing this beautiful black mustang down I-26 in SC.. speed limit was 60 & we were both doing 80, side by side..
I looked over at him and we were both grinning from ear to ear..
Then all of a sudden he reaches up to his shoulder and pulls down a concealment patch… he was FBI.!!!
I hit CANCEL on that cruise control so fast I gave myself whiplash.!!!

The dynamics of these on/off ramps from the QEW have changed in the last almost 50 years.
It's now 3 lanes and more gradual curves and lit up like a summer's day.
We'd had a couple brown pops and decided to go from St Catharines to Niagara Falls to cruise the Lane (Lundy's).
Turned to the on ramp which was long and gradual. Put her to the boards listening to the dual exhaust and 4 barrel do their thing.
The end of the on ramp was kind of dark and sudden. I knew that and was ready as I shot out onto the highway. What I wasn't ready for was the cruiser sitting in that dark area.
He must have heard us coming as before I even fully passed him the lights came on.
I had the advantage of speed and he had to catch me.
Took the next exit at speed. It hasn't changed that much. Under the overpass bridge and a hard right turn that takes you 180 degrees back in the direction you came from.
Going around I could feel the rear end threatening to swing out.
As you came out of the turn on the opposite side was a service station at the intersection.
I knew the place and drove in at speed and pulled to the back of the building where there were a bunch of other cars there for service. Shut off the lights and engine in the semi dark.
I had been far enough ahead that the cop hadn't seen that maneuver.
He drove by slowly looking and quickly a couple more cruisers came by looking.
Maybe it just sounded louder in the car but if the cop had listened he would have found us. As the car cooled you could hear the exhaust pinging. From our position it might as well been a major thunder storm.
We were ducked down hiding behind the dash and saw the flashing lights go by numerous times.
We hid out until daybreak, about 5 hours, before daring to leave.
Went a couple back streets and got away with it.
Next day I had a cruiser on my a-s for a while but he never pulled me over.
Time before cameras recording everything.
Didn't give him any cause to pull me over.
Tex, the friend who had been with me died in a high speed crash less than a year later.
They figured he was over a 100mph when he went in and along a ditch in a gradual dip and curve.
The car hit the culvert for the street that came out there.
Hitting the culvert his car launched up and across the street. It hit the telephone pole on he other side snapping it off more than half way up.
Somewhere in that moment he was thrown from the car hit the pavement and slid over a 100 feet before ending up in the opposite ditch. His upper body, head/shoulders were mostly erased by the pavement.
The local fire department tried to wash the stain out of the pavement but it was visible for easily a year.
The Dukes of Hazard wasn't always fun.

In this state, racing on the street is immediate 6 months suspension of license, extra coursework to get it back, and some pretty insane insurance rate penalties. I got caught doing that about 25 years ago, which cured me of that desire, real quick.

I worked with a Canadian cruising contractor years ago who had been pulled over in one of the provinces going way to fast. He was a bit nervous as conviction would have prevented him from crossing the border. He also said that if he'd been going much faster they would have seized his car and sent it directly to the crusher... Apparently they don't mess around in Ontario.

Dunno if it's still the case, but my BIL used to drive for Walmart and any moving violation, even on your own time was a fireable offense. Don't even think about a DWI!

I'd guess that was probably an empty threat made out of frustration. I can't believe that'd be legal, even in Kanuckistan.

If you're over by 50km (31mph)
- immediate 7 day suspension
- car impoundment
- licence suspension up to 2 years if found guilty
- up to$10k fine and possible jail time
Car is not crushed.

If they were serious about this they could charge endless drivers everyday, all day' between where I live and Toronto.
They raised the limit to 110 couple years ago because too many people where doing 130-40km because the fuzz didn't much bother you at those speeds.
Now they go that extra 10Kmh that it was raised. Unless traffic is snarled and you're only doing 120kmh you're in peoples way.

There is a stretch of highway (405) from the Queenston/Lewiston bridge at the USA border to just before the St Catharines Skyway.
Generally low traffic volume, minimal police.
A friend of mine runs down from Queenston to where it joins the QEW.
Checks traffic volume, road conditions etc for me before I take my GT for a run.
I haven't maxed her out but have been up to 190mph (over 300kmh). 3 times the posted speed.
Not often you get that baby into 6th. 4th, 5th, 6th are OD.

The only time the GT40 was opened up was on the track and then very cautiously as it was simply too valuable to risk and the GT was only opened up on s hill climb and never in the higher gears...

I have several contractor friends that had to let good trades people go because tickets made them uninsurable on the company vehicle insurance...

One guy really screwed himself from a New Year party over the limit...

He begged my friend not to let him go and he was a exemplary foreman on the job...

My friend kept him but his pay was severely cut because he could no longer drive...

These kinds of things were enough to keep me from drinking.

GT on a hill climb?
Closest I've done is The Tail of the Dragon.
It's low and wide.
Took the turns just fine but it needs it's space.
I just can't see anyone doing a hill climb.

One of my pet peeves is people walking/jogging on the road at dusk or after dark in dark clothing and with no light or reflective clothing. I have damn near hit several people that pull that stupid trick out here in the country. Between those idiots and the deer, you have to watch like a hawk. Maybe I need night vision goggles.

Sending your car to the crusher seems a bit extreme. That would really pizz me off...
Is it my fault you build a road for 80 mph and post it 40 ? Whoever set the speed limits never drove a Porsche.

I know it's been said already in this thread, but... modern spray paint cans. I pulled the battery out of my zero turn this morning, and of course the tray rusting. No worries, the metal is thick, just a few minutes with a wire brush and needle scaler to clean it up.

I grab a can of Rustoleum "rusty metal primer" from my bin, it was used earlier this year but properly inverted to clear the nozzle, as is my usual habit. I start spraying, and get most of the battery tray primed before it clogs hard. Clog is not in the nozzle, as always anymore, it's in the feed tube inside the can.

I let that dry, then grab an already half-used can of Rustoleum Farm and Implement "JD Green". No matter how I shake it, I can't get consistent spray unless I hold it perfectly up-right. No good, toss it.

Then I grab a new, unused can of Rustoleum Farm and Implement "John Deere Green". Not sure why one is labeled "JD Green" and the other "John Deere Green", the caps are the same color. It's clogged, right off the bat, just got a small spritz.

Then I grab a third, also unused can of Rustoleum Farm and Implement "JD Green". Second brand new can, clogged before I ever got to them. These were all bought inside the last year.

Then I grab a fourth can, some half-used off-brand (TSC?) of unknown age in JD Green, and after shooting nothing but clear solvent for a few seconds, it works well enough to shoot two full coats. I'll try for a third after lunch.

Rustoleum used to be the best name in rattle cans, when I was a kid. I always knew their "One Touch" and "2X" products were crap, but their classic stuff has always worked great. Tractor Supply used to carry Valspar's Farm and Implement line, which always worked well enough, but now they have this Rustoleum crap that just clogs right out of the box.
I wonder what is his preferred brand. They found ~1500 cans in his house.
