Buying Advice Homeowner Forklift

How is the prices on used Moffet/Piggyback fork lifts? I don't think I've really ever seen them used, but I have also never sought them out. They have a faily low mast, can atleast stack to 60", and are meant foe mixed terrain

Edit: a very quick search found some at $21,000; but i didn't keep digging to see if that was the cheap ones

For one that actually works they’re expensive. I’ve seen some heaps for $5k. But if you don’t need the ability to ride on a truck a regular forklift is lot cheaper. They don’t get around great which isn’t surprising considering the tire size. I’ve had to finish moving pallets with a tracked skid steer that they got stuck delivering.

The comparison of a forklift vs skidsteer would make the skidsteer more appealing then these.

A tracked skid steer is obviously way more versatile than the forklift. I’ve never had an actual off road forklift but I expect the big wheel ones with 4x4 would offer comparable results to the skid steer. The skid steer will far exceed the off-road ability of a moffit or regular pneumatic tire forklift. The regular forklift or moffit will far exceed the maneuverability of the skid steer. I expect the actual off road forklift is more comparable to the skid steers maneuverability. The forklift will beat the skid steer in lift capacity and lift height although the skid steer is capable of exceeding your 3,000 pound requirement. The biggest problem with a skid steer is the cost far exceeds the $3,000 budget.

Yeah, a third the price I'm thinking. I budgeted $12,500 for a skidsteer.

That’s still pretty low for a machine big enough to lift 3k.

I'd stay away from Moffet/Piggyback fork lifts. They have a mile of hydraulic hoses and around here they get pretty rusted from the road salt.
