Trygg Off Road/Snow Chains, Decision?

I just priced Trygg SMT Flexi chains - front and rear for my Kubota M6040. Including tax and shipping - $2000 for the rear - - $1000 for the front. Now I just have to determine if I want to spend that much.

i've had great wear on OFA's with a fair amount of pavement time- they seem to be a good bit cheaper

Main reason I went with the OFA Eko9's for my last one's just a bit less expensive and seem to be a very good chain. The EKO series doesn't always show up on the web sites, don't know why.

I chose Trygg for a couple reasons. Like the overall design and there is a local retailer for Trygg here in Cheney. AND - they will help install the chains on the rear tires.

I have a drop tarp both front and rear of the big 'ol carport. With my salamander heater the temp inside can easily reach 72F. No - I am not some type of cold weather weenie. I just prefer working with somewhat warm hands.

I did just the rear tires with the trygg chains. I have not needed nothing more in the traction department for plowing my driveway and shop yard. Even with a base of ice, the tryggs chewed it up the snow and ice below just the same.

This winter I have yet to need to plow though.....

My M6040 weighs 10,000+ pounds. Still - when the rear blade is offset - the kerf I'm plowing - if heavy and/or wet - can cause loss of steering control. The front wheels tend to move toward the edge of the road. Pivoting - so to speak - on the rear tires. Rather surprising since I have 2400 pounds of FEL and grapple on the front. I can counteract this - somewhat - with the split brakes.

Aggressive chains should help this situation.

This will be year six that I have not had to plow - driveway, mailbox area or yard. That's why I'm somewhat hesitant on spending so much on chains.

Maybe forget the chains and purchase banana and pineapple plants. We are certainly moving in that direction around these parts.

So far, I've only plowed once this winter...unusual for Northern PA.

In fact, haven't mounted the OFAs yet because of the limited snow. Nothing like living on the edge!

But may do it this week, though winter is half over (he says optimistically!)

With 3/4 of a mile mostly downhill to the road, I have to plow going down the hill and then drive back up raised when running without chains.

But with the OFAs, the tractor can pull a full plow up the hill, down the hill, and sideways if needed! It's unstoppable!

Yes - today. My "lawn" is not what everybody thinks of as lawn. It's meadow grass that has been mowed - like a real lawn - for over 40 years now. The meadow grass completely dies out in the late summer. It returns - green as ever - with the fall rains. It's just starting to - green up - right now.

This fall/winter is just like the last 8 to 10 years. Strange and unusual. We have been getting rain like we were on the west side of the state.

Rain down here at 2350 feet - snow in the mountains. Makes no difference to me - as long as we get the moisture.
