Trygg Off Road/Snow Chains, Decision?

So far, I've only plowed once this winter...unusual for Northern PA.

In fact, haven't mounted the OFAs yet because of the limited snow. Nothing like living on the edge!

But may do it this week, though winter is half over (he says optimistically!)

With 3/4 of a mile mostly downhill to the road, I have to plow going down the hill and then drive back up raised when running without chains.

But with the OFAs, the tractor can pull a full plow up the hill, down the hill, and sideways if needed! It's unstoppable!
Even with chains on I only plow my driveway down hill. With chains on and horsing the heck out of her I can plow up but it is rougher on equipment.
I plow my driveway in sections, the top up around the house and shed which is almost level. The the first straight going down and most of the first corner, I plow down reverse and back up, plow down again, and repeat.
Then I plow out the short straight and part of the second corner the same way. Then the last straight the same way.
Then the end of the driveway and road entrance and parking spot at the road..
I've always ended up working it this way, hasn't mattered if it was chained up 4x4's, chained up 3/4 tons with the sanders in the back, 2wd tractors with chains or 4wd tractors with chains at the rear or on both axles.

Oosik,
Gotcha, I was commenting on the lack of snow. We have about 8-10 on the ground here but less than normal. Had our first brown Xmas in 20 years- melted right before and snowed on the 26th.

Has anyone priced chains for trucks to see if there is a
big price difference??

I have a set of chains for a VW bug so easy to put on
and you have a t wrench that fits in this lug in the center
of the chain give it a turn and it locks them on tight no slack

willly

I've had three snow "events" here. Two were an inch or less and melted the same day. The latest was three inches and melted the following day. Snow does not stand a chance with temps above freezing and rain.

Whatever - as long as we get our needed moisture. My lake is already up to its normal full level. Brownie and I went down to the end of the lake a couple of days ago. The beavers are quite busy - dam repairs and maintenance. They are very ingenious also. In the absence of birch, willow, aspen, alder - etc, to repair and do maintenance - they use the root ball from the cattails. Slapping and stomping to plug the few holes in their dam. This all forms a growing semi-circle down at the end of the lake.

The way things are progressing here - I will need to fire up the riding lawn mower long before plowing any snow.

Expensive chains are on the back burner.

I see. Maybe it will last longer than a couple days.
It did. Plowed driveway for the first time this winter, yes first time this winter.

Well - over the last four days I've got inch and a half of snow. About an inch remains because of our COLD weather.

I got a couple frozen puddles on the driveway. Nothing more......
