10 dead in New Orleans

Because it was New Year's Eve and that area is a popular place to celebrate, while waiting for the upcoming Sugar Bowl.

The reports I’ve seen have all been specific in that the boarder license plate reader picked up the plate… nothing about who was in the vehicle only the plate sequence was read.

Plate readers are not 100% because twice in the last 10 years I have been sent toll invoices based on plate but upon further human investigation the vehicle captured was not even close to being my vehicle.

Yes the license plate readers aren’t alway accurate. I have received toll road bills in the mail that supposedly flagged my license plate in Fort Worth, Texas. I wasn’t even in that city on that date.

Had that happen on the Illinois tollway and I live in Michigan and I've never used it. They got adamant that I pay it and I got nasty back.

I do have an Easy Pass for the Ohio and Indiana turnpike but I believe the scanners they use are much more accurate as I've never had a mis-charge.

I see they identified driver and his name isn't John Doe either.

I'm adverse to crowds anyway so that sort of stuff is not my cup of tea anyway.

I do feel bad for those who got killed. No one deserves to die like that.

If you've ever been on Bourbon street, it is a very interesting place. During the daylight hours, the street is filled with tourists. As the sun goes down, the crowd evolves into partiers. By 3am, most of the people are going to be pretty wasted. I would say this would have been a lot worse if it happened a few hours earlier. There would have been a lot more people on the street.

The Sugar Bowl is moved to today (Jan. 2). It won't be as much fun because of this.

Officials can't really say for sure that everything will be secure. Of course, they never can really be sure of that. I imagine there will be lots of lawsuits against New Orleans for allowing the truck to get through the baracades.

And like most Americans, you jump to conclusions.

Both perpetrators in these "terrorist attacks" are US citizens, both born in the US. Both have served in the US military with one still being active duty.

Both had mental health issues, key difference is one did not want to kill anyone but himself.

Heck, the one in New Orleans wanted to kill his family. Same guy had multiple divorces along with money issues. Yep, typical Muslim terrorist.

If the Bible would have been written today, the parable would have been about "the good Muslim"...

I understand that.

However, my wife and I just had a talk about this living this in our own lives.

A guy was shot recently late at night coming out of a bar. He was waiting for a uber. He was at least 75 yards away from where the shooter was at, and both the shooter and the guy who was shot had NOTHING to do with each other, nor knew each other, and it was determined that the guy who was shot had NOTHING to do with the shooting.

Yet on facebook, people are condemning the guy shot and assume he had something to do with the shooting.

On a personal note, a son of ours died of a drug overdose. My wife and I were first hand observers of people accusing us as parents as being bad parents. Personally, I'd like to think that is not the case, but per some, we were already convicted of being bad parents on facebook.

Go figure.

Sorry to hear about son, I know you discussed this before.
We have had issues with a relative and he has responded to rehab, but it is certainly mental issues, his parents tried so hard to fix the problem, but knew he needed the pros.
Will be lifelong process to keep him on the good road.

It is easier for the radical groups to pick on people with mental issues, or those that are so alone they look for any contact. Isis and their like prey on the weak.

Losing a job or loved one sometimes triggered but by far saw many guys say to hell with it and drink themselves to homelessness after a breakup…
